Patterns, colour, proportion are all being played with and it's a feast for the eyes (and soul). #### *What retro trend are you wearing?* I bought my first Chanel scarf in Paris when I was 19. I've collected several over the years and love seeing them worn in so many different ways. Depending on the way you wear them, you can be channelling the 50s, 60s and even the 80s. I'm also really into brooches, both to add glamour and interest to an outfit but also functionally to shorten a dress that's too long or to hold a scarf in place. #### *What fabrics or combinations of fabrics are you into?* I'm a big fan of denim jackets worn under other jackets, whether that's wool, nylon or even silk. I like the ruggedness and the colour of denim as the underpinning of another piece of outerwear. I'm a MAXIMALIST AT HEART so the fact that it's making a comeback on the runways is certainly making me happy. #### *What are your styling tips around pattern?* I love putting multiple patterns together. When you do this, the trick is to make sure they are all in a similar colour wave. When done right, the patterns become intrigue through texture but there’s still a rhythm and balance to it. #### *What have you learnt about dressing for your body type?* I sort of stopped dressing for body type a while back because it felt limiting, creatively. However, I'm only 5ft 4in and I have to say that super long skirts and even long dresses often look like they're wearing me, so I have to be really careful with length. #### *What's your approach to proportions?* I don't have hard and fast rules around proportion. I often feel proportion and general silhouettes are a way of staying current or ‘on trend’ without having to purchase anything new. In the winter, it's about ring stacks and statement earrings and, in the summer, it's all about necklaces. I love jewellery the most on bare skin, especially tanned skin. As a result, I find I am quite demure when it comes to jewellery in the winter, and then a total maximalist in the summer! #### *What are the key pieces of underwear or shapewear to have in your wardrobe?* In this department, I sadly did not inherit my French grandmother's appreciation of lingerie/underwear, but for bras, I wear either [strapless](https://www.wearpepper.com/products/mvp-multiway-strapless-bra-buff), even under t-shirts, or bathing [suit tops](https://leftonfriday.com/products/sunday-top-beach) by Left On Friday. #### *How do you add colour to your wardrobe?* For the colour averse, it can be the smallest addition. Red lips. Red nails. People always think it's a bag or shoes but, for someone who really doesn't trust themselves with colour, make-up is a great starting place. I also love using just a small amount of colour in the form of a [polo shirt](https://www.motherdenim.com/en-gb/products/the-lil-match-french-blue?variant=43085696106584) under another shirt. Tiny pop but impactful. And, of course, [socks](https://www.commesi.com/products/the-yves-sock?variant=46712106582292)! #### *What do you invest in?* I invest in jewellery and bags. I could get rid of almost everything in my closet, pair it down to jeans and a tank but, if I have great jewellery and a great bag, it's still an outfit. Maybe a few years back, a sweater would be long, hitting around the hips. Now, I’ll wear the same sweater and jeans but the sweater is tucked in with a statement belt. Belts are a great way to refresh. #### *How do you style animal print?* Animal print shoes might be my favourite of all, but I also love a great coat. The only thing I don’t do is mix animal prints. One is enough for me. #### *What's your approach to hi/low dressing?* If I can get a look I'm after and pay less, why wouldn't I if the quality is there? I am not a slave to labels or specific designers. I am so visual I probably couldn't even tell you what piece is by which designer most of the time. I like what I like, regardless of who made it. When that happens to be more affordable, even better! I also think it shows more creativity when one is not dressing in head to toe ‘hi’. I often feel PROPORTION and GENERAL SILHOUETTES are a way of staying current or ‘on trend’ without having to purchase ANYTHING NEW. #### *How often do you clean out and edit your wardrobe?* Too often. I hate clutter. I'm the opposite of a hoarder. I make rash decisions just to clean things up – and I have regretted this on multiple occasions. Even if you haven't worn an item in ten years, there are certain pieces you just have to keep. Trust me on this. My Christian Dior silk nightgown my mother bought me when I was ten was a keeper and I regret getting rid of it. Same with the Givenchy taffeta dress from high school. Be mindful of getting rid of special pieces. #### *What do you do with clothes you no longer need?* Whenever guests come to my house, they almost always leave with clothing.
