The peachy terracotta hues drowned in golden light is a sight I could never tire of – I found myself taking the same photos every single day because I just couldn't get over how beautiful it was. I love how it feels modern and luxe yet still traditional and authentic at the same time. Our room was more like an apartment, complete with a private pool, outdoor dining area and surrounded by lush greenery. Set in stunning Provençal grounds complete with a pool, several ponds and a pétanque court, you can explore by bike or on foot, with the village of Lourmarin right on the doorstep offering traditional bistros, cafés, boutiques and artists' studios. One of the most remote of the Aeolian Islands, there are no cars, no roads and no crowds. Accessible only by boat and an uphill climb on foot, it's not for everyone but that's entirely the point. The island has one shop, receiving fresh deliveries each day, so everything you cook depends on what has arrived that morning.
