Bulbul comes from Rohan Dsouza and Twinkle Keswani, the duo behind several acclaimed restaurants across India, including Pisco by the Beach in Goa. Set inside a former printing press in Blackfriars, the restaurant puts regional Indian cooking centre stage, with three chefs bringing their own distinct influences to the kitchen. Bleecker has opened its first site north of the river in Camden Market, marking the independent brand’s tenth London location. Bancone has opened its sixth London restaurant in Bloomsbury, bringing its signature silky pasta dishes to the newly refurbished Imperial Hotel. The group first opened in Covent Garden in 2018 and has since become a firm favourite across Soho, Borough Yards, Kensington and the City. This latest outpost marks a first for Bancone: its debut inside a hotel. Expect a 140-cover restaurant, an open pasta kitchen and a 60-cover terrace. Chef Sertaç Dirik – known for his reinvention of his family’s much-loved Mangal 2 – is joining forces with restaurateur David Carter, the name behind hits including Manteca and Oma, for a new Turkish restaurant in Soho. The menu will take a modern approach to Turkish cooking, with British produce at its heart. Downstairs, Robin Kosuge of Robin’s Ramen will run a ramen counter, while upstairs, Yuji Shimokawa Kelly will oversee a restaurant and bar exploring Japanese cuisine more broadly. There will be pastries, savoury bakes and coffee in the daytime, followed by a more expansive evening menu featuring crudo, kinilaw, salads and pasta, all filtered through Shah’s Filipino heritage. A purpose-built hi-fi system will provide the soundtrack. Taking over the hotel’s Garden Lounge, expect lunch dishes such as burrata tartine with tomatoes, alongside crispy fried squid with saffron aioli in the evening. Lunette will be an intimate 30-cover space on the 11th floor of the Nick Jones-owned St Clement hotel at 180 The Thames. While the full menu is still under wraps, it will centre around a seasonal set menu that Knight describes as deeply personal. There’s serious design pedigree behind the project, too, with ceramics by Tetsuya Otani and Michel François, bespoke uniforms from Alex Eagle Studio and handblown glassware by Alexander Kirkeby.
