More colours don’t necessarily mean a better mask, it’s about choosing the right wavelengths and how that light is delivered. Let’s be honest, you’re not going to use it once or twice and wake up looking a few years younger! Like any good skincare treatment, regular use is what supports those progressive improvements. Ultimately, the best LED mask is the one you’ll actually get out of the cupboard and use. Ten minutes is about my personal max, which is another reason I like the Dermalux Mask. It’s one ten-minute treatment, with no different modes or settings to think about, so it’s easy to make it part of your regular skincare routine.” *– Teresa* 02 ## Don’t Get Swayed By The Rainbow “One of the biggest myths is that more colours mean more benefits. I see masks that shout about seven different colours as though you’ve won the LED lottery. You haven’t – you’d much rather a smaller number of specific, clinically-proven wavelengths that have been carefully selected and properly delivered.” *– Teresa* 03 ## Do Look Beyond The Price Tag “Cheap doesn’t automatically mean bad and expensive doesn’t automatically mean good. Just because a mask lights up red doesn’t necessarily mean it’s delivering an effective skin rejuvenation treatment. What you tend to find with more advanced masks is much more research and engineering behind the way the light is delivered, because even coverage is really important too. My favourite mask is designed so the LED light points are positioned away from the skin for even distribution. It gives 93% face coverage and has been designed and tested using medical device standards. Those are the sorts of tangible details I’d look for rather than simply the number of LEDs or a long list of beauty claims.” *– Teresa* 04 ## Do Your Homework “When choosing a mask, look at whether the brand is transparent about the wavelengths, the intensity of the light and the dose you’re actually receiving during treatment. It’s also important to consider how evenly the LEDs cover the treatment area, how close the light sits to the skin and whether the device has undergone the appropriate safety testing and regulatory process. There’s been a tendency with LED to focus on bigger numbers – more LEDs, more colours, more power, but bigger doesn’t necessarily mean better. You want the right dose of the right wavelength reaching the right area. And comfort matters – you can have the most technically impressive mask in the world, but if it’s uncomfortable and you don’t use it, it’s not going to do very much.
