A Sunday in Queen’s Park should always start at [Don’t Tell Dad](https://www.donttelldad.co.uk/). The pastries here are genuinely some of the best in London – better than Paris. The bakery is the sort of place where you’ll struggle to choose just one thing, with glossy croissants, pain au chocolat and seasonal bakes all worth the queue. Once you’ve got your coffee and pastry, head next door to the [Queen’s Park Farmers’ Market](https://www.lfm.org.uk/markets/queens-park/), which takes place every Sunday morning. I’d go straight to the hot-food stalls for a full breakfast of fried eggs, bacon and sausage, then make sure to pick up some fresh oysters while you’re there.

Assuming you’ve been blessed with a sunny autumn day, the next stop should be [Queen’s Park](https://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/things-to-do/green-spaces/queens-park). It’s relatively small but mighty, with plenty to keep you occupied. The playground is brilliant if you have children, and you can book a tennis court if you fancy a game. There’s also [Pitch and Putt](https://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/things-to-do/green-spaces/queens-park/queens-park-pitch-and-putt) for anyone who wants to work on their short game. Otherwise, take a stroll around the gardens, find a bench and enjoy a little fresh air before heading back towards Lonsdale Road.

From there, make your way to [Wolfpack](https://wolfpackbars.com/), a neighbourhood pub with a laidback, open-air feel. It’s a great spot for a drink, particularly on a Sunday when the atmosphere is lively without feeling too hectic. If you’re lucky, you might even nab one of their free Sunday bloody marys.

For lunch, there are plenty of good options. You could head to [Carmel](https://www.carmelrestaurant.co.uk/) for Mediterranean-inspired cooking or [Café Felice](https://delifelice.jimdofree.com/) for something more casual, but I’d choose [The Salusbury](https://thesalusbury.co.uk/). It’s an elevated neighbourhood gastropub that feels particularly suited to a cosy autumn weekend. The Sunday roast is the obvious choice, with all the comforting trimmings you want at this time of year, while the wider menu offers a more relaxed alternative if you’re not in the mood for a full roast. The food is consistently good and the pub has that welcoming, lived-in feel that makes you want to settle in for the afternoon.

If you fancy walking off lunch, have a wander around the residential streets off Salusbury Road and towards Goldman Road. This is a neighbourhood best explored without too much of a plan: browse the independent shops, admire the beautiful houses and stop whenever something catches your eye. Given the time of year, I’d finish at [The Fat Badger](https://thefatbadgerw10.com/), one of the cosiest pubs in the area. Find a corner and order something warming to finish off the day.

I’d start by taking the Uber Boat by [Thames Clippers](https://www.thamesclippers.com/booking) from London Bridge to Greenwich. There’s something lovely about arriving by river, watching the city unfold along the Thames rather than hopping on the tube. Before setting off, I’d grab a coffee from [Borough Market](https://boroughmarket.org.uk/) to take with me – it’s a much nicer way to begin the day than rushing straight into sightseeing.

Once you arrive, head straight to [Greenwich Market](https://greenwichmarket.london/). It’s a lovely place to spend a morning, with independent traders, handmade gifts, vintage finds and plenty of food stalls to browse. I’d pick up another coffee, find a sweet treat and take my time wandering around. From there, it’s a short walk to the [Old Royal Naval College](https://ornc.org/), one of Greenwich’s most beautiful landmarks. The architecture is spectacular and the grounds are worth exploring in their own right, even if you don’t have time to go inside.

For lunch, I’d head to the [Trafalgar Tavern](https://www.trafalgartavern.co.uk/), a historic riverside pub dating back to 1837. Try to get a window seat overlooking the Thames if you can. The menu is full of proper British pub classics, from Greenwich whitebait and steak and kidney pie to bangers and mash, with traditional Sunday roasts if you’re visiting at the weekend. Portions are generous, the drinks list is good and, when it’s busy, the atmosphere feels like London at its best.

Afterwards, it’s time for a walk up Greenwich Park to the [Royal Observatory](https://www.rmg.co.uk/royal-observatory). It’s fairly steep but the views across the city are worth the effort. Here, you can stand on the Prime Meridian, the line that defines zero degrees longitude, and learn about the history of Greenwich Mean Time. Even if you’re not particularly interested in astronomy, the Observatory is fascinating and the panorama over the London skyline is one of the best in the city. Give yourself time to wander around the park before making your way back downhill.

In the evening, Greenwich has no shortage of pubs in which to settle in for a drink [The Cutty Sark](https://www.cuttysarkse10.co.uk/) and [The Gipsy Moth](https://www.thegipsymothgreenwich.co.uk/#/) are both worth considering, particularly if you want somewhere relaxed after a day on your feet. And if you need something substantial to soak up the drinks, finish at [Goddards at Greenwich](https://goddardsatgreenwich.co.uk/), a family-run pie and mash shop that has been serving Londoners since 1890. The menu includes traditional minced beef pie, mash and liquor, alongside steak, chicken and vegetarian options. My order would be two pies, two portions of mash and plenty of chilli vinegar.

My ideal autumn weekend would start with a trip to [Jolene](https://www.jolenebakery.com/) – the bakery and restaurant makes an excellent starting point for a leisurely morning. There’s something about this time of year that makes me want to eat well, browse little shops and start thinking about Christmas gifts. I’d pick up a pastry and coffee before setting off on a long walk towards Hackney.

The walk is half the fun. There are so many lovely independent shops dotted around Stoke Newington and the surrounding streets, from vintage stores and interiors shops to food specialists and little places selling gifts you won’t find on the high street. I love taking my time and seeing what I come across, particularly in the run-up to Christmas, when it’s nice to get ahead with present shopping. Make your way towards [Hackney Flea Market](https://www.hackneyfleamarket.com/), where you can spend a good chunk of the afternoon browsing vintage clothes, homeware, antiques and one-off finds. It’s ideal for anyone who prefers a gift with a bit of character to something straight off a department-store shelf.

I’m also keen to visit [The Horses](https://www.thehorsesec1.com/), a new pub opening in Stoke Newington. It’s from the same group behind [The Hart](https://www.thehartw1.com/), The Fat Badger and [The Pelican](https://thepelicanw11.com/), so it’s one I have high hopes for. I’d happily build a walk around stopping there for a drink and a look at the menu, which features the kind of classic pub dishes I love, from fish pie and potato pie to oysters and shellfish.

Another favourite route takes me along Wilton Way, with a stop at [Violet Cakes](https://www.violetcakes.com/) for cupcakes. It’s a lovely little bakery, known for its seasonal bakes, cinnamon buns, cookies and beautifully decorated cakes. I’d pick up a treat for later, then carry on towards Mare Street Market. There’s a fun photo booth nearby that’s worth stopping at if you’re with friends, before heading to [Bambi](https://bambi-bar.com/) for a couple of drinks. It’s a good place to pause before deciding where to go for dinner.

At night, [Auguste](https://www.instagram.com/auguste__london/) would be my first choice. It’s menu is all about European-inspired cooking, with Italian influences and excellent skewers, while [Wonton Charlie’s](https://www.wontoncharlies.co.uk/) is ideal if you fancy something more casual. Its noodle soups are exactly what I want on a chilly evening. Alternatively, [Café Kowloon](https://cafekowloon.co.uk/) is a good option if you want a broader selection of dishes.
