Anine Bing's Guide To Copenhagen

Anine Bing's Guide To Copenhagen

Copenhagen is top of many people’s list when it comes to a European city break. And while fashion designer Anine Bing may be based in LA, the Danish capital is her true home. Here, she shares her must visit spots, as well as her favourite places to stay and shop in the city.

SHOPS

Illums Bolighus

Illum is a beautiful store which showcases home-grown talent, as well as household names, ranging from fashion to beauty and interiors. It’s one of those stores you could spend hours browsing in.

Royal Copenhagen Flagship Store

We have pieces from the Royal Copenhagen Blue Fluted porcelain collection in our home in LA; they are such simple and elegant designs. Every time I visit the city, I pop in and select another show-stopping item to bring back with me.

Storm

For me, Storm feels like Copenhagen. I love the ultra-clean and modern layout. They also stock cool, elevated brands.

Klassik

My interior style inspiration starts at the Klassik showroom. It is the best place for vintage Danish furniture. At the start of lockdown, I moved house, so I can’t wait to visit and see what’s new.

RESTAURANTS

Noma

Probably one of the most famous restaurants in Copenhagen, the chefs here use only fresh, local produce to create a seasonal menu. This is definitely somewhere for special occasions, like a birthday or an anniversary.

Juno The Bakery

Juno makes the best pastries in Copenhagen and their Cardamom buns are iconic. There's often a line of people waiting, so get there early.

Atelier September

The space at Atelier September is flooded with natural light and is full of homey touches: beautiful plants, interesting coffee table books and wonderfully mismatched, vintage crockery. If you’re an avocado toast fan like me, it's a must-visit.

Apollo Bar

Facing the courtyard of the beautiful Charlottenborg Art Gallery, Apollo is a great, simple find in the centre of the city.

La Fontaine

This intimate venue is a classic jazz bar, and somewhere you can have a really good night out. They also host an open-mic night, which is really fun.

Half wine shop, half wine bar, Pompette serves incredible natural wines at great prices.

Lidkoeb

Lidkoeb has a cosy, relaxed feel with a large Chesterfield sofa to sink into. It's the perfect spot to sip tasty drinks and warm up near the open fireplace. A great choice if you're visiting in winter.

Holmens Kanal

When you’re in need of a good cocktail, Holmens Kanal is where to head. Housed within a magnificent building from 1863, it has a really cool, old Hollywood vibe.

Hotel Sanders

I love staying at the Sanders. It's so homey and in such a great location. As soon as you step inside, you’re greeted with a reception area which doubles up as a lounge. With its grand bookshelves and cosy fireplace, you immediately feel a sense of relaxation.

PLACES TO VISIT

Louisiana Museum Of Contemporary Art

The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art is located about 20 miles out of town on the Øresundstrait, but is well worth a visit. It’s home to some beautiful art, as well as a fantastic outdoor sculpture park.

Kastrup Søbad

Kastrup Søbad is probably the best-kept secret in Copenhagen and an architectural gem. My children love swimming here and it is the best place in the city to come and enjoy the water.
