The Best Pumpkin Patches To Visit In The UK

With Halloween just around the corner, get into the spirit with a trip to your nearest pumpkin patch. Farms around the country are hosting fun activities the whole family can enjoy, from spooky trails and pumpkin hunts, to cooking demonstrations and carving lessons. Here are some of the ones worth a visit.

Maxey’s Farm Shop, Nottinghamshire

Open: Every day until 31st October, 9am-5pm.

Price: Tickets are £3 per person (children go free). 

This award-wining family-run farm shop in Nottinghamshire is home to one of the biggest pumpkin patches in the UK. Maxey’s grow an extensive range of pumpkins and squashes, with over 50 varieties to choose from. Kids will love ‘The Spooky Woodland Walk’ adventure trail and the ‘Pumpkin Carriage’ – a Halloween themed tractor ride through the farm. Try a tasty burger from the farm BBQ, or sample homemade sausage rolls, chocolate brownies, or Maxey’s signature flapjacks at the deli shop.

Stanhill Farm, Kent

Open: Every day until 31st October. 9:30am-3pm Monday to Saturday; 10am-2:30pm on Sundays.

Price: Admission is free.

Less than an hour’s drive from London, Stanhill Farm in Dartford is home to a charming pumpkin patch. Grab a wheelbarrow and choose from a huge array of pumpkins in various shapes and sizes. The farm looks beautiful in during the autumn – be sure to take plenty of photos, especially as the patch has some unusual pumpkins on the vine. Fill your wheelbarrow for £30, or handpick your own selection, all of which can be bought individually. The on-site Berries & Beans café has a range of refreshments on offer, including hot drinks, toasties and baked goods.

The Pink Pig Farm, Lincolnshire

Open: Every day until 1st November, 10am-4pm. 

Price: Tickets cost £6 per car parking space.

Head to the Pink Pig Farm in Scunthorpe this October for a fun pumpkin festival. Kids can choose their own with the help of ‘Windle the Witch’, search for the ‘Golden Pumpkin’ to win a special prize, and look out for a friendly scarecrow hiding on the farm. Choose a tasty Halloween-themed drink from the Greedy Pig Café, or a spooky snack from the Play Barn.

Avon Valley Pumpkin Patch, Bristol

Open: Selected dates throughout October, 11am-4pm.

Price: Tickets are £3 per person (under-twos go free). 

Located just outside Bristol in Keynsham, Avon Valley Pumpkin Patch makes for a great day out during October half term. Kids can enjoy fair rides, pumpkin paintball, pumpkin slingshot and other games on the farm, while adults can head to the on-site bar for an alcoholic tipple. While roaming the huge patch, look out for the ‘Golden Pumpkin’ which contains a special prize. There’s plenty of entertainment at Avon this autumn, so once you’ve harvested your crops, browse the local food vendors for something to eat.

Farmer Copley’s, Yorkshire

Price: Tickets from £2 per person. 

With over 20 different varieties, shapes and sizes of pumpkin to choose from, Farmer Copley’s is a family-run farm shop in West Yorkshire. Here, you can hire a wheelbarrow for the day and choose the best pumpkins to take home, as well as enjoying treats from the Witches Kitchen Marquee, including apple toffees and seasonal hot drinks. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for the ‘Not-So Wicked Witch’ hiding on the farm too…

Arnprior Farm, Stirling, Scotland

Open: Every day until 31st October, 11.30am–5.30pm.

Price: Tickets are £6 per car. 

Arnprior has over 10,000 pumpkins on its six-acre patch in Stirlingshire. Their pumpkins come in a range of shapes and sizes – great for Halloween carving, or a tasty autumnal dish. During October, the farm has lots of activities for kids, including face painting, quad bike rides, a maze made of kale, plus a haybale soft play area. Adults can take part in pumpkin flower arranging and pumpkin cooking demonstrations. Arnprior also has a selection of pop-up food trucks serving homemade bakes and artisan Scottish beef burgers. Don’t miss the horsebox gin truck for a refreshing afternoon drink.

Undley Farm, Suffolk

Open: Every day until 31st October, 10am-5pm. 

Price: Admission is free.

Set on a 75-acre field, Undley Farm in Bury Saint Edmunds has a range of outdoor activities for the whole family. Pick a huge pumpkin straight from the vine and transport it back to your car in one of the farm’s wheelbarrows. Little explorers can venture up the huge bale pyramid on the farm, head on a donkey ride, or take part in a Halloween carving demonstration. Enjoy a meaty treat at the barbecue, opt for a hog roast bap, or try a wood-fired pizza from the on-site pizzeria.

Cattows Farm, Leicestershire

Located in the charming village of Heather, Cattows Farm is ideal for adults looking for a spooky day out. The on-site ‘Scare Maze’ will transport you to a scary Halloween town where you’ll spot ghosts and ghouls lurking in the corn, though if you have kids in tow, skip the maze and head straight to the pumpkin patch which has over 40 varieties to choose from – look out for the white ‘snowman’ pumpkin and the mini Munchkins for something a bit different. Finish the day with afternoon tea at the Tea Room.

Cammas Hall Farm, Essex

For a family day out, head to Cammas Hall Farm in Essex. Explore the six-acre corn maze, stock up on Halloween treats from the farm shop, and pick your own crop from a fully stocked patch with over 20 varieties of pumpkin and squashes. Kids can take part in arts and crafts activities on the farm and during October half term, Cammas will fire up their BBQ and pizza oven. Adults can also enjoy pumpkin spiced lattes, mulled apple juice, butternut squash soup, and other seasonal offerings from the farm kitchen.

Located in Milford, Secretts farm is just an hour’s drive from London. With one of the best patches in the country, you can choose from a wide selection of pumpkin and squash. Once you’ve chosen your pick of the patch, head to the food stalls for some autumnal treats, including spicy pumpkin cake, pumpkin soup, hot dogs and waffle sticks.

Priory Farm, Surrey

Open: Until 1st November, 9am–4pm

Price: £5 per person.

Head down to Priory Farm for a fun Halloween trail to help solve the mystery of the missing pumpkins. Kids can learn about pumpkin harvesting and head on a fun activity hunt on the farm before enjoying a tractor ride. Sample some delicious local produce at the on-site farm shop, and if you don’t want to get muddy, choose a pre-picked pumpkin from one of the stalls inside.

Foxes Farm, Essex

Price: Tickets are £5 for a family of four.

Foxes Farm is one of the largest pumpkin producers in the country. The family-run estate has two farms in Essex – Basildon and Colchester – both of which make a great day out. Visitors can choose from 15 different varieties of pumpkins and squashes, and learn how the vegetables are produced on the farm.

Garsons Farm, Surrey

Open: Until 27th October, 9am-5pm.

Price: Tickets are £4 for adults, £1 for children.

Garsons is an award-winning garden centre and farm shop with locations in Hampshire and Surrey. The Esher branch has one of the UK's largest 'pick your own' farms where you'll find pumpkins and other seasonal produce. Kids can also guess the weight of the huge Lego pumpkin, choose new Halloween decorations, and take part in a pumpkin colouring-in competition.
