The LGs Share Their Favourite Summer Reads

Want some help on what to read next? The LGs have you covered. From this year’s hottest new releases to an informative piece of non-fiction, these are the books they’re loving this summer.

The Club by Ellery Lloyd

Recommended By: Sapna Rao, Junior Fashion & Beauty Writer

If you love a mystery full of twists and turns, but a storyline that feels familiar and modern, this is the book for you. It focuses on an oddly familiar private members club, following the launch of a brand new ‘Home’ – an entire island off the coast of England. Among the glitz and glamour, different characters share their accounts of the club, which slowly unveil dark secrets and a seedy secondary storyline. The book starts with a murder and, as you get to know the characters, you’re not only trying to figure out who did it – but also who was murdered. I flew through it.

Funny You Should Ask by Elissa Sussman

Recommended by: Alexa Everaert, Digital Designer

I love a romance and this one has a unique plot. The story follows journalist Chani Horowitz and movie star Gabe Parker, who are plunged into the spotlight the minute they meet. They then don’t see each other for ten years, with the story jumping back and forth between alternating timelines. As a reader, you learn how their connection grew and what caused their estrangement. It’s a real page-turner, as you become more curious to find out the fate of the love story.

Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin

Recommended by: Beatrice Beckett, Product Editor

Sam and Sadie cross paths in hospital when they’re young and bond over a Super Mario game. Later down the line, they reconnect, using their shared passion and skills to make a video game of their own. The story spans 30 years in total and I can’t recommend it more highly.

People Person by Candice Carty-Williams

Recommended By: Hattie Cotmore, Digital Designer

Jamaican patriarch Cyril Pennington has five children belonging to four different mothers. During their early years Cyril brings the siblings together for an introduction so that none of them meet later in life and accidently fall in love. Years pass until Cyril's children are thrown together in an unlikely way and they confront their relationship with their father and each other. Warm and funny, with witty dialogue, People Person covers topics of loneliness, violence and microaggressions in modern-day Britain. Gripping and heart-warming, it was impossible to put down.

The Villa by Ruth Kelly

Recommended by: Coco Hoyle-Ansett, Commercial Content Manager

I can’t go on holiday without a good thriller and this one did not disappoint. The premise is comparable to Love Island but with a far darker twist. Laura is an undercover journalist going on the show to expose its hidden truths and to get the inside scoop on her fellow contestants. However, as the games begin, she realises the show is not quite what she signed up for.

The List by Yomi Adegoke

Recommended By: Kate Pryor, Social Media Assistant

This is the book everyone in the SL office is talking about – mainly because it’s the upcoming read for The SheerLuxe Book Club – so I had to pick it up. I'm part way through and I’m hooked. The plot is both thought-provoking and fun – which is a tricky balance to strike considering the central storyline is a very public accusation of sexual abuse.
