Mix & match…

Mixing gold and silver can be tricky to get right. To keep it simple, choose your favourite out of the two metals and play with the shapes instead. Slotting in dainty, thinner pieces and a chunky textured ring is one way to experiment, while still ensuring things feel considered. Maddison Gordon, part of Astrid & Miyu’s creative team, loves layering up gold pieces in her ring stack, explaining that A&M’s solid gold pieces are water resistant and therefore “a holiday must-have – ideal for beach trips or relaxing by the pool”.

Think about contrast & balance…

Ring stacking doesn’t mean having a ring on every finger – but if you’re keen to go down the maximalist route, it helps to maintain some balance and contrast, so things don't look too matchy-matchy. Try styling a larger statement piece on one finger alone – perhaps your index finger – and add a couple of thinner bands alongside it. This keeps the stack cleaner and more dynamic. To keep things more minimal, simply stack a few thin rings together for a sleek, elongated look.

Play with colour…

Not only will a pop of colour break up your stack, it's also a great way to add a summery vibe to your look. Sinéad Flood, founder of July Child, is no stranger to colour and the brand’s fun selection of pieces are perfect if you’re looking for something bolder. “My ideal pairing is probably some pastel-hue enamel rings with something crystal or stone themed to match. If I want to take it to the next level, I’ll also add a couple of hearts and star rings to finish it off,” she explains.

If you’re still a little nervous, dip your toe into the colour trend with a single statement ring – like July Child's 'Baby Girl' design – and pair it with a bit of everyday gold and silver. Alternatively, try the new season ‘Enamel’ style for a softer hint of colour. Meanwhile, Maddison suggest giving A&M’s new selection of pastel enamel rings a go: “They’re easy to wear and are actually supposed to be stacked together.”

Finally, have fun with it…

The best thing about ring stacking is you can make it your own and experiment, depending on your personal style and existing jewellery collection. “I love mixing and matching because it's all about having a bit of fun with your look,” says Sinéad. “It’s a playful way to express my personal style,” adds Maddison. “Think of it as a chance to get creative with colour, texture, size and metals.”
