The New Ice-Creams & Frozen Gadgets To Try This Summer
THE ICE-CREAMS
Macaron Double Chocolate Ganache Ice Cream, £5.25 | Häagen Dazs x Pierre Hermé
Häagen Dazs has teamed up with Michelin-starred pastry chef Pierre Hermé to create an ice-cream collection made with his signature macarons. There are two flavours to choose from: Double Chocolate Ganache and Strawberry & Raspberry will transport your tastebuds to a chic Parisian café. Each ice-cream starts with milk and cream before crunchy, chewy mini macaron shells are added. Our favourite from the range is the ganache with its salted dark chocolate. Each one is available in pint tubs, mini cups and stick bars.
Salted Caramel Ice Cream Collection, £5 | Jude's
Jude's is made by a family of ice-cream makers. Churning it out in small batches, the team uses single-estate Colombian cacao, Madagascan bourbon vanilla and milk from Matterley Farm, just down the road from its production site in Hampshire. Now wonder Jude’s has won over 70 Great Taste awards. There are two salted caramel flavours to try: one with salted caramel sauce and salted caramel pieces, and the other made with cocoa sauce and chocolate curls. Both are equally tasty and come in handy pots for the perfect portion.
Ice Cream With Hidden Veg, £3.30 (was £5) | Smugglers
Struggle to eat your five-a-day? Smugglers has created an inventive way to smuggle vegetables into your meals. Created by three dads, its new ice-cream range currently features three flavours: Chocolate with Hidden Beetroot, Vanilla with Hidden Parsnip, and Strawberry with Hidden Carrot. Each is made with just enough hidden veg to deliver a boost of nutrients and fibre, without impacting taste or texture. Each one also has less fat and sugar than your average pot.
Classic Milk Chocolate & Hazelnut Ice Cream Sticks, £5 | Ferrero Rocher
Nut lovers, this one’s for you. Top chocolate brands Ferrero Rocher and Raffaello have released their long-awaited ice-cream range. Across three flavours, fans can enjoy the nostalgic tastes of Ferrero Rocher and Raffaello in ice-cream form for the first time. The Ferrero Rocher Classic combines the iconic taste of Ferrero Rocher with smooth hazelnut flavoured ice-cream, all dipped in a coating of milk chocolate and crunchy hazelnut pieces. Look out for Raffaello’s coconut-flavoured ice-cream – perfect for white chocolate lovers.
Mochi, £3.49 | Lidl Gelatelli
Trust Lidl to create another great dupe. Its ice-cream brand Gelatelli has created two flavours of Japanese-inspired mochi balls – imagine squidgy little balls of ice-cream wrapped around a soft rice cake covering. Choose from coconut or mango – we love the latter for a fruity, refreshing dessert. Mochi balls can be expensive, so these are a great alternative at an affordable price point. We recommend leaving them out of the freezer for ten minutes so they can soften up.
Chocolate Hazelnut Snacking Balls, £4.50 | Oppo Brothers
Oppo Brothers is another brand that delivers fewer calories than you might expect from a tub of ice-cream. Its new Chocolate Hazelnut Snacking Balls are just 25 calories each. As well as low sugar and extra protein, Oppo uses fresh milk from meadow-grazed cows, is vegetarian friendly and has won Great Taste awards for its products. These bite-size balls are covered in thick Belgian milk chocolate and studded with roasted hazelnut pieces for extra crunch. Yum.
Salted Caramel Ice Dessert, £3.40 | M&S
M&S has a range of Halo Top-inspired ice-creams with the texture of froyo, including flavours like birthday cake and coconut and lime. Now, there’s a salted caramel flavour made with skimmed milk, West Country cream, caramel and vanilla. Low fat and with less sugar than some alternatives, a few scoops will satisfy your sweet cravings. We also recommend the Birthday Cake Dessert tub for a fun celebration.
Ice Cream Cones, £3.25 (were £4) | Oreo
The wait is over. We’ve had Oreo milkshakes, McFlurries, hot chocolate and even protein bars, now Oreo’s first ice-cream cones have just hit the shelves. You’ve probably seen these doing the rounds on TikTok – and no wonder, because these are one of the tastiest options on this list. Chocolate biscuit cones are filled vanilla ice-cream and crushed Oreo pieces – a handy treat to have in the freezer for a girls night.
Fruit Twists, £3.30 | Little Jude’s
Jude’s doesn’t just make great ice-cream – it now has a selection of ice lollies for when the warmer weather hits. Light and refreshing, its Twister-inspired Fruit Twists contain a small amount of sugar and are only 37 calories each. Each lolly is filled with swirls of strawberry ice and mango, and coconut ice-cream, wrapped around a zesty apple ‘core’ that’s light and refreshing. Unlike other lollies, these are made with real fruit – perfect for an afternoon snack.
Caramilk Ice Cream, £2.75 (was £3) | Cadbury
Cadbury launched its white chocolate bar Caramilk back in the 60s and it’s taken on various shapes and flavours over the years. Today, it’s made from 100% sustainable cocoa with a smooth, silky texture and a distinctive caramel flavour. The brand recently launched Caramilk ice-cream – available in stick bars and tubs with a golden caramel centre and chocolate chunks. The perfect dessert for anyone with a sweet tooth.
