9 Of The Best Fruit & Veg Boxes

9 Of The Best Fruit & Veg Boxes

For many of us, online food shopping became the norm during lockdown. Now we’re nearly back to normal, there are still many benefits to getting a seasonal delivery of fresh fruit and veg every week. Here are our favourite schemes to sign up to…

Abel & Cole

Abel & Cole’s weekly plastic-free box contains six seasonal organic fruit and vegetables, with customers able to add up to three fruits and seven veggies to a ‘dislike list’, so you only get sent what you really like. Plus, your first box will also include a handy calendar with tips on getting the most out of your seasonal produce. There’s a minimum order value of £12, as well as a delivery charge of £1.50. Delivery is available nationwide, across England and Wales.

All Greens

When restaurants shut down last March, grocery wholesaler All Greens saw its sales plummet 80% overnight. But instead of saying goodbye to its business, owner David Josephs set up an online delivery service, including fruit and veg delivery boxes. Orders shot up after celeb chef Yotam Ottolenghi posted about it on Instagram (his restaurants all use All Greens supplies), with boxes made up just before delivery. Fruit boxes start at £20; delivery covers central London, plus some southeast and Twickenham postcodes.

Having started out delivering home-grown organic veg to friends and neighbours, 30 years on, Riverford is one of the UK’s most successful vegetable box schemes, delivering to around 50,000 customers a week. Ethics are fundamental to the brand: self-confessed veg nerd Guy Singh-Watson believes organic food should be accessible for everyone – and he built the business to give a fair deal to all: growers, staff, customers and the planet. Most of the brand’s veg is popped straight into reusable delivery boxes ‘naked’ – but for anything that does need protecting, they use home compostable packs. Boxes cost £18.95 with free delivery to the UK mainland.
