Lady Anne Glenconner, 92, was brought up at Holkham Hall in Norfolk, the eldest daughter of the Earl and Countess of Leicester. She was a maid of honour at the late Queen’s Coronation in 1953 and a lady-in-waiting to Princess Margaret. At the age of 87, she published her debut book ‘Lady in Waiting’, which sold over a million copies. A second memoir, ‘Whatever Next?’ followed and now a third book – ‘Lady Glenconner’s Picnic Papers’ – has hit the shelves just in time for Christmas. Featuring contributions from friends like Graham Norton, Rupert Everett and Tina Brown, it explores the British obsession with dining al fresco, despite the famously unpredictable weather. We sat down with her to talk about her book, growing up in the shadow of the crown and her favourite memories of Princess Margaret.
