Brightening CC Blush, £32 | By Terry

Why We Rate It: This limited-edition radiance booster comes as a hydrating liquid blush to give users an all-day glow. Offering a natural and dewy finish with buildable coverage, the product’s integrated blending brush provides long-lasting colour that results in a fresh, healthy and radiant complexion. There are currently two shades: Rosy Flash and Sunny Glow – the latter is ideal if you prefer bronzy tones.

Top Tip: “Liquids like this can sometimes disappear after you’ve applied them. To counteract this, use a silicone primer as the first step in your make-up routine. You can follow up by using a powder blusher on top – you’ll be amazed at the difference and how much longer everything lasts.” – Caroline Barnes, celebrity & pro make-up artist

Watercolour Liquid Cheek Colour, £16.50 | Daniel Sandler

Why We Rate It: These cream blushers from celebrity make-up artist Daniel Sandler last for hours on the skin, offering up a healthy, glossy-looking glow that’s beautiful for daytime and can be amped up for a more full-on evening look. Ideal for mature skin types, they hydrate and are sheer, and are never OTT or heavy. Plus, they contain no shimmer, so you won’t get any particles settling into fine lines or dulling down your complexion.

Top Tip: “Apply these with a soft, fluffy synthetic brush and swirl the product into your skin with light motions. Once dry, you can layer with a powder brush for better longevity. Complement the rest of your make-up with a similar shade to keep the look modern.” – Caroline

HD Radiant Blusher, £62 | Chantecaille

Why We Rate It: This compact blush is so easy to use. Complete with a brush and finely-milled shimmer particles, just a small amount is ideal for adding some speedy warmth and definition to skin. Smooth and silky in texture, it can be built upon depending on the amount of glow and flush you want to create. A little goes a long way, so be sure to tap off any excess on the back of your hand if you need to. Apply it higher on your complexion in an upward direction – think above the cheekbones – this is a more sophisticated approach which defines and shapes your face for a more chiselled appearance. Make sure you blend and blend again for no harsh lines.

Chubby Stick Colour Balm, £21 | Clinique

Why We Rate It: These Colour Balm Sticks are worth every penny. With a velvety, buildable texture, the cream finish blends easily and lasts all day. Easy to apply with fingers or a brush, the colour leaves behind a ‘blurred’ effect – think of it like a light stain. Meanwhile, the nourishing formula and softening ingredients keep skin in check, with a hydrating finish that’s both smooth and silky. Try ‘Robust Rhubarb’ if you have darker skin and ‘Roly Poly Rosey’ – a soft pink – if your skin is lighter in tone.

Pot Rouge, £23.50 | Bobbi Brown

Why We Rate It: A staple in many pro kits, this buildable formula can get you from sheer to opaque in seconds, depending on how much you use. We usually recommend using a brush, but with this you can dab on just a little with your fingers for a healthy flush of colour that’s subtle and believable. It’s great for mature skin types because it’s long-wearing and doesn’t sink into creases.

Top Tip: “Cream blushers blend beautifully for a very natural look on all skin tones. One of my favourites is this one from Bobbi Brown. A little goes a long way and it can be built up depending on what you’re after looks-wise. Soft and smooth, it never settles into fine lines or creases throughout the day. It adds a dewy glow to skin too that’s unbeatable.” – Ruby Hammer MBE, make-up artist

MD No Make-Up Blush, £30 | Perricone

Why We Rate It: Perricone MD’s ‘No Make-Up’ range was, and still is, hugely popular. Its richly pigmented blusher continues to garner rave reviews thanks to the glossy sheen and soft flush it lends skin – and also because of its impressive ingredients which include brightening vitamin C. Like others on this list, a little goes a long way but, if you feel it’s too sheer, then layer up for a more intense finish. Apply it with a damp sponge if you are keen to amp up the glow.

Sheer Blush, £21 | Iconic London

Why We Rate It: One of our favourite blushers of all time, these sheer formulas have a gel-like consistency that melts into the skin for a healthy and luminous finish. Providing a sheer flush of colour, they’re easy to build up and mix together if you’re after something bolder. You can also sweep them on lids and lips for something a little different.

Top Tip: “When it comes to blusher, look for a colour that doesn’t just warm up your complexion, but one that adds a flush or glow to the cheeks too. The colour your cheeks become when you are naturally blushing is the colour you should emulate, which obviously changes from person to person, but bear this in mind when you shop.” – Ruby

Plumping Blush Glow-Plexion, £24 | Studio 10

Why We Rate It: This regularly sells out, which is testament to its efficacy and popularity. Merging both brightening pink and warm orange undertones, it instantly wakes up duller, lifeless-looking complexions with a believable flush of colour. Created specifically for more mature skin, it contains plumping Adipofill to boost elasticity and firmness for a suppler appearance. Buildable and easy to use, you’ll find you can amp up the colour at speed or sheer it out for daytime wear – the choice is yours but, either way, you’ll get a natural, fresh finish.

Flush Blush in Posey Pink, £20 | Trinny London

Why We Rate It: You’d be hard-pushed to find any bad reviews for these handy blush pots. Available in six suits-all shades, they are brimming with nourishing oils for instant glow. You can use a brush or your fingers – we recommend the latter so you can warm the texture up and blend it out more easily. Creamy and smooth, focus application to the area where your nose and outer pupil meets on your cheek. Blend fully for a soft-focus effect that’s very natural. As they dry down semi-matte, you’ll find these last an entire day with no touch-ups required.

Top Tip: “It’s not just the cheeks that can benefit from blush. A cream blush like this can be lightly applied onto the nose to give extra warmth – like you’ve just been exercising. Just keep the application light, otherwise it can look like you’ve had one too many drinks. Also, a bit of powder blusher blended into your eyelids or crease can pull a look together and make everything look more uniform.” – Ruby
