The Latest Suncare We Love

We all know that wearing a sunscreen is key to maintaining younger, more supple skin and our greatest weapon to prevent further signs of ageing – that’s why it’s essential to find one that you’ll enjoy wearing. Gone are the days of old-school, chalky formulas, there are now several new SPFs to choose from that make application a joy. From lightweight drops to moisturiser hybrids, plus a soothing aftersun body oil spray if you've overdone things, these are our favourites suncare products for mature skin.

All products on this page have been selected by our editorial team, however we may make commission on some products.

The Lip Tints:

Sheen Screen Lip Protectors, £16 | Ultra Violette

If you’re after a lip protector that isn’t chalky and white, look to these from Ultra Violette. Just like a glossy balm, they provide lips with a hefty dose of hydration and protection from UV rays but with zero stickiness. There are seven shades – some with a subtle, plumping shimmer – for a hint of colour that’s fresh and youthful-looking.

The New Texture:

Sun Water SPF50+, £32 | Caudalie

A half-water and half-oil formula, Caudalie’s new SPF applies seamlessly and absorbs fast with no greasiness in sight. Even better, it’s completely translucent, so it never stains your clothes, towels or any cushions you may be sitting on. There’s vitamin E inside, too, which keeps skin strong and supple, while the formula itself is marine-friendly with no ingredients that are known to cause damage to sea life. You can use this on both your face and body, without any irritation.

The Handy Block:

Invisible Sun Care Stick, £22 | Clarins

Lips and ears are two of the most common areas we miss when applying our SPF. If this sounds familiar, look to this versatile sun care stick from Clarins. The twist-up tube releases just enough protection at a time, while the transparent formula glides on and never feels sticky, nor does it look too shiny. You'll find you can apply other products on top without them sliding around. We love that it works on the hairline as well, thanks to its lightweight, sheer texture.

The Luminous Tint:

Tan Boosting Anti-Aging Body Oil SPF30, £28 | Coco & Eve

We love this silky-smooth oil that lends skin a natural wash of glow with no commitment – you can rinse it away at the end of the day. Add to that numerous skincare benefits – such as strengthening peptides, protective SPF30 and nourishing oils – and you have a formula that ticks all the boxes. Massage it in with your hands and watch a golden bronze colour develop. Ideal when you want a hint of something while baring your skin.

The Skin-Soother:

Cool Down Soothing & Moisturising Body Oil, £17.99 | SunBum

If your skin is feeling dry, tight or inflamed – regardless of being in the sunshine – this translucent oil will immediately provide some calm. It’s full of aloe vera and vitamin E to replace lost moisture and will lock it in for hours post-application. It doesn’t have that tacky feel to it either that some after suns have – instead it’s soft and velvety, and never leaves you sticking to your clothes or chair. Extra points, too, for the functional aerosol can which means you can mist the formula on and go.

The Lightweight Drops:

The One That’s A Serum SPF50, £22 | Hello Sunday

This affordable brand has become hugely popular since launching in the UK. A milky-white fluid that’s gentle and easy to massage into the skin, you’ll find you can take these drops right up to the eye area without irritation. The dry down is also transparent, so they work well for all skin tones. We love how smooth they feel, with zero sticky or tacky residue, meaning they work well on top of or underneath make-up to protect the skin throughout the day. Just make sure that, if you combine them with other products, you reapply every two to three hours. You can also wear them on their own and, thanks to hyaluronic acid and gluconolactoine, they give skin a subtle glow, while delivering intense moisture at the same time.

The Affordable One:

Ideal Bronze Tan Enhancing Protection Oil SPF30, £7 (was £14) | Garnier

For an affordable option, you can always rely on Garnier. Its new Bronze Protective Oil Spray is lightweight, smells amazing and is complete with ingredients like shea butter to seal in moisture. Despite the slight tint, it never transfers and the silky texture means you don’t have to faff with application, as it glides on like a dream. Dermatologically tested, you can trust it’s safe for even the most sensitive of skin.

The Mattifying Powder:

Resetting SPF30 Powder, £29 | Supergoop!

A favourite among industry insiders, this promises to get rid of unwanted shine, set make-up in place and protect skin all at the same time. Non-nano particles create an invisible shield of protection, blocking out UV rays and minimising skin damage. As with all these powders, it works best when used as a top-up – use several taps and apply it all over in several layers to get the most out of it. With zero tint or colour, you’ll find this never settles into fine lines, nor does it feel drying or tight. A great summer staple, especially if your skincare and make-up is prone to slipping.

The Does-It-All Facial Hydrator:

Hydra-Fusion Daily Defence SPF30, £48 | Studio10

This 5-in-1 skincare hybrid is set to be a huge hit over the summer. Lightweight, hydrating and designed to streamline your routine, it works as a moisturiser, primer and UV protector in one. It’s silky-smooth and satisfying to apply, never leaving behind any tell-tale greasy residue that can be associated with these types of hybrid products. It works to block harmful rays from penetrating your skin, while sealing moisture in deep down with four different levels of hyaluronic acid. Regular use will help bolster your skin’s tone and suppleness, while added squalane will strengthen its elasticity over time. Ideal before make-up, the thin fluid preps your complexion nicely for anything that follows.

The Luxe Option:

Adaptasun Protective Silky Body Mist, £50 | Institut Esthederm

We love Institut Esthederm’s SPFs. Though more expensive than some on this list, they are worth it for the smooth textures that not only feel luxe but also offer high levels of protection and optimise the tanning process. What sets this mist apart from others in Institut’s line-up is the fact that a single misting can cover a large surface area in one go. It also provides a soft sheen to your skin, imparting a natural glow that looks healthy. One bottle will last you for months, so you’ll find you get your money’s worth.

The Glow-Boosting After Sun:

Golden Tan Maximiser, £24 | Lancaster

Easy to apply, this immediately nourishes skin and alleviates any discomfort with softening oils. It also has an in-built tan activator complex, which helps you to build a sun-kissed, natural-looking glow that lasts. Extra points for the soft scent that is coconut-y and warming, transporting you to sunnier climes immediately.

The Scalp Protector:

UV Face & Scalp Mist SPF50, £16 (was £20) | UltraSun

Designed to be worn on top of or beneath make-up, this clear spray is easy to use and refreshing. It offers high levels of protection against UVA and UVB with an antioxidant-rich formula that keeps your skin quenched and soft, preventing that loss of elasticity sun damage is known to cause. The glow it offers is impressive too – think luminous and youthful but never too shiny. It’s not just your face that can benefit either – as this is so sheer, you can also use it to protect areas like your scalp. It never goes matte or dry, so you don’t have to worry about it being harsh to brush out.
