These Are The Anti-Ageing Night Creams & Treatments Experts Swear By

Night time is when your skin repairs, restores and regenerates, so it makes sense to invest in creams and treatments that both aid the recovery process and slow the ageing process. Whether you're prone to dark spots or dryness, we asked some beauty industry insiders to share the formulas they rely on and recommend for mature skin.

Skin Better Science Trio Rebalancing Moisture Treatment, $140

Recommended By: Dija Ayodele, skin health specialist & founder of Westroom Aesthetics

Why She Loves It: “Mature skin tends to experience a lot of dryness – especially during the menopause due a drop in oestrogen levels. This night treatment lotion is a lightweight, but deep, moisturiser which helps skin feel more hydrated and balanced. The last thing you want is a heavy moisturiser that is cloying and suffocating to your skin. The Trio has all the same components that naturally sit on the top layer of our complexion, including ceramides, urea, cholesterol, fatty acids, hyaluronic acid, glycerine and vitamin C, all of which soften, re-plump and brighten your skin.”

Allies Of Skin Retinal & Peptides Repair Night Cream, £105

Recommended By: Abigail James, leading facialist & skincare expert

Why She Loves It: “The packaging actually says this is a mask, but it’s absolutely a cream – and a retinol-rich one at that. It’s also full of skin-loving peptides which nourish, strengthen and enhance elasticity. Make sure you apply it over your face and neck, too, running any excess over your hands. You’ll love how well it seals in moisture, while also locking out toxins and pollutants.”

Medik8 r-Retinoate Youth Activating Cream For Day & Night, £135

Recommended By: Dr Justine Kluk, consultant dermatologist

Why She Loves It: “This is my go-to for mature skin as it not only works at night, but daytime too. It delivers all the anti-ageing benefits of vitamin A (retinol) but with minimal dryness and flaking. Use it both on the face and neck to tackle issues of premature ageing, such as wrinkles, dark spots and uneven skin tone. Another one I often recommend is Filorga Time Filler – it’s a luxuriously rich moisturiser that plumps with key ingredients like peptides and hyaluronic acid.”

Elemis Pro-Collagen Oxygenating Night Cream, £99

Recommended By: Dr Kemi Fabusiwa, skincare expert

“This cream is a great way to treat yourself and your skin. It helps to maintain hydration overnight, with antioxidants that work to minimise the damage that’s left behind from external aggressors – like the sun and pollution. It’s rich and luxurious, too, so mature skin types get plenty of nourishment from it.”

Medik8 Advanced Night Restore Repair Cream, £36

Recommended By: Mahsa Saleki, founder of Sas-Aesthetics.co.uk

Why She Loves It: “A rich, lavish formula, this is packed with active ingredients that are quickly absorbed into the skin, leaving it feeling super soft and supple. It works fast to restore your skin’s natural barrier as you sleep, repairing any damage that’s been caused by environmental aggressors – like UV and pollution – throughout the day. Your skin is left firmer, more hydrated and smoother, thanks to ceramides and peptides. The added vitamin A is brilliant for an overall anti-ageing effect, too. A one-pot-wonder.”

CeraVe Moisturising Cream, £5

Recommended By: Dr Anjali Mahto, consultant dermatologist

Why She Loves It: “Technically this isn’t a ‘dedicated’ night cream, but I love to apply it before bed as it’s so rich. I recommend it for those with mature skin as it’s hydrating, simplistic and fragrance-free. Try applying it twenty minutes after your retinol or vitamin A treatment to counteract any irritation. It’s rich in ceramides so it’s great for keeping dryness and inflammation at bay. In my opinion, when it comes to a good night cream, you’re better off opting for a moisturiser that doesn’t contain multiple actives as these can increase irritation and problematic reactions after more intense ingredients have been used (for instance, in serums) – the simpler, the better.”

Esse Restorative Moisturiser, £115

Recommended By: Nichola Joss, skincare expert & facialist

“An intensely moisturising formulation, this is suitable for night-time as it gets to work repairing and restoring mature skin. It’s incredibly hydrating and contains high levels of low molecular mass hyaluronic acid to maximise hydration. It’s also designed to combat the visible signs of ageing by optimising the health of your skin’s protective microbiome. I personally love this product and use it on all my clients for great results.”

ZO Skin Health Radical Night Repair, $170

Recommended By: Kate Kerr, facialist & skincare expert

Why She Loves It: “This is one of few serums that helps to prevent the epidermis and dermis sliding together, which is an issue that causes skin sagging, a key symptom of ageing. There are heaps of retinols that stimulate collagen, which is brilliant, but you also need to prevent the sliding of your dermis. Plus, this has a beautiful, gel-like texture that’s lightweight and hydrating – great for mature skin.”

Cult 51 Night Cream, £125

Recommended By: Dr Ionnais Liakas, medical director at Vie Aesthetics

Why He Loves It: “This cream provides a wealth of benefits for mature skin. It contains scientifically-advanced ingredients at highly concentrated levels to help prevent and reduce the visible effects of ageing on your skin. It works alongside your skin’s metabolism to give a firmer, smoother and more hydrated appearance. Applied overnight, you’ll also find it eliminates the need for a surplus of skincare products and simplifies your evening routine. It’s great for those wanting to minimise pigmentation, rosacea and even the appearance of obvious spider veins. You’ll find it delivers long-lasting moisture, too – for at least 12 hours – so you never wake up feeling tight-faced.”

Whind Kasbah Moonlight Transforming Cream To Oil Night Treatment, £65

Recommended By: Michaella Bolder, skincare expert

“I absolutely love this product from Whind. It completely embalms your skin overnight and provides intense nourishment from argan oil and moisture from vitamin E. The formula is brimming with antioxidant properties, too, in order to keep skin strong, resilient and plump. It’s completely brought my complexion back to life and it works well to balance out any inflammation from my retinol products, too, keeping my skin supple and smooth. I can’t recommend it enough, especially for mature skin types as it’s so hydrating.”
