10 Of The Best Meal Kits To Try

Post-pandemic, restaurant meal kits have become a staple treat, offering an easy way to have a special occasion meal at home without loads of prep and washing up. Whether you’re after something fun to do on Valentine’s Day or fancy trying food from some of London’s most famous kitchens without travelling, here are some of our favourite meal kits out there.

All products on this page have been selected by our editorial team, however we may make commission on some products.

Haar At Home

Masterchef finalist Dean Banks has created a range of restaurant kits delivered straight to your door. These seasonal fine-dining kits make a great treat for special occasions – right now, options include a three-course box for two filled with some of Scotland's best ingredients, including Loch Etive cured trout, a classic 32+ day aged steak and a salted caramel chocolate ganache; and the team’s signature Luxury Lobster & Crab Box (which we’ve tried and loved), which comes with dressed crab with spicy mango slaw and Asian dressing, followed by native dressed lobster with mirin butter sauce, seaweed potatoes, seared seasonal greens and smoked mayonnaise.

The Coach by Tom Kerridge

Finish-at-home meal kit specialists Dishpatch has an array of menus created by celebrated chefs and restaurateurs. At the moment, Michelin-starred chef Tom Kerridge has a number of comfort-food menus devised by his restaurant The Coach in Marlow. We love the look of his 12-hour ale braised short rib kit, which comes with Tom’s British favourites, including succulent, beer-braised short rib with mustard mash and his ultimate sticky toffee pudding.

A Valentine’s Day menu includes grilled scallops with persillade butter; lobster thermidor a light cream and dry vermouth sauce flavoured with Parmesan cheese and mustard, new potatoes and mixed salad leaves; and chocolate pavé with biscuit crumb and Cornish clotted cream. Regular menus include Indonesian curry, Cornish sardines with caper and tomato salsa and braised ling with lettuce, peas and crispy bacon.

Dishoom

If you love Indian food, Dishoom is the meal delivery service to know. For something a little different, order in one of its famed bacon naan kits, which now comes with a ‘Marmalade Mimosa’, made with marmalade liqueur, fresh ruby grapefruit and Integrale natural sparkling wine. The kit contains everything you need for a fun brunch, alongside spices and loose-leaf tea to make the restaurant’s chai. Best of all, for every kit you order, the restaurant group donates a meal to Magic Breakfast. For an evening meal or relaxed weekend lunch, we love its feasting boxes, which come with easy-to-follow instructions for house black daal, mattar paneer, lamb sheekh kababs, murgh malai, bhel, kachumber, tawa rotis, mango lassi and gulkand mess. It comes with a Dishoom tea towel and a packet of kabab masala for later use.

The River Café

It’s not the cheapest option on this list, but you can’t go wrong with a feast from The River Café, one of the capital’s most-loved restaurants. Of its current colourfully packaged box sets, we love the sound of its Tuscan Winter Dinner. Each serves two and comes with radicchio, walnut and Robiola di Roccaverano salad, beef fillet wrapped in coppa with horseradish, florence fennel parmigiani, potatoes al forno, braised cavolo nero and the kitchen’s moreish pistachio cake.

Michel Roux Jr for Dishpatch

Masterchef The Professionals head judge Michel Roux Jr’s delivery-only box – sent via Dishpatch – offers a collection of traditional French favourites. His Winter Pot au Feu kit is a rustic celebration (endive tart, pot au feu with beef featherblade and smoked sausage and pain perdu with poached prunes), there’s a truly indulgent chalet-style tartiflette designed for two to share and then there’s our top pick – a steaming bowlful of French onion soup topped with cheesy sourdough croutons, served with a fresh endive salad.
