The Top Trends For 2019, As Told By Pinterest

Over 250 million of us use Pinterest each month to help plan out our lives and with over 175 billion ideas pinned to 3 billion boards to date, you can trust that these guys know what’s cool and up-and-coming in 2019. Their Pinterest trends for next year are what style-inspired, well-travelled and food-smart people are dreaming about for the year ahead, from everyday inspiration to big plans for the future. Sound interesting? Well here’s the lowdown….

Beauty

In 2019, we’re going to be getting ever more natural when it comes to beauty. We’re far more willing to grow old gracefully as people rid themselves of artificial hair dyes and let their natural greys shine through. We’re also looking for a lash lift that doesn’t revert to falsies, but instead gives our actual lashes a boost using all-natural products such as grapeseed oil and aloe vera. Meanwhile, we’re continuing with that environmentally-friendly streak with liquid exfoliators that shun the use of microbeads.

Fashion

People began to cotton on to sustainable fashion this year but it’s set to take off big time in the New Year thanks, in part, to the likes of Stacey Dooley showing us the real impact fast fashion has on the planet. Stacey Dooley Investigates: Fashion’s Dirty Secret highlighted the real trouble with the fashion industry, with claims that it’s one of the most polluting industries in the world, alongside oil. Sustainability shouldn't be considered a 'trend' but people are siting up and taking note far more than ever before. We rounded up our favourite sustainable fashion brands to shop, including Dagny London, Veja and Matt & Nat. See them all here.

Food

Bread baking is on the rise (get it?), especially when it comes to making fermented loaves such as sourdough. On the other end of the spectrum is foil pack dinners – the low-prep, low-mess meals that pack in loads of flavour. In our ever-busy lives, these are the perfect dinner recipes for people who don’t want a whole lot of faff in the kitchen when they get home from work.

Health

It seems people are fully ready to commit to a healthier lifestyle come the New Year, with searches for ‘sober living’ up by a whopping 746%. Yes, 2019 will be a year of sobriety for many, with people searching for motivational quotes and non-alcoholic drink ideas. Again, sustainability is having a moment, with reusable beeswax wraps being used as an environmentally-conscious alternative to single-use cling film. And when it comes to the health of our skin, it’s going to be all about Bakuchiol – hailed as the gentler, more natural alternative to retinol, it’ll be the clear-complexion choice of skincare buffs

Home

DIY home decorating is more popular than ever thanks to Pinterest. Boasting a whole host of do-it-yourself tips for the style-savvy among us, one of their biggest prevailing trends is due to be painting parquet floors with bold colours and mosaic patterns. Indoor and outdoor heaters are also on the rise as people choose to warm up with contemporary fireplaces. And, of course, another big trend of 2019 will be a bright, buzzy peach tone thanks to a little thing called ‘Living Coral’ – yes, Pantone’s colour of 2019 is coming for your interiors, whether it’s small touches of it in accessories or going big with it on your walls.

Travel

As we become more environmentally conscious, people have been looking for a new, more sustainable way to globetrot. ‘Zero waste travel’ is set to make waves next year, which means strategic and sustainable packing, eating and hotel-ing. From putting your plane ticket on your phone rather than printing it off to carrying shampoo bars to save on plastic, users are prepared to help save the world in 2019.

The ‘surprise trip’ will also be on the up next year – and we’re not just talking about a little surprise, we’re talking clearing the calendars, choosing a type of holiday, and not knowing where you’ll be  going until you arrive there kind of surprise. A number of places are starting to offer these kinds of trips, including luxury travel company Black Tomato, whose ‘Get Lost’ feature lets you do just that – you pick the kind of holiday you want, and they’ll do the rest, literally

Family & Kids

As many parents know, buying children’s toys is not cheap. Which is why toy-sharing subscription services will be on the up next year, meaning you can keep your kids entertained with a steady stream of new distractions, without the waste. And forget princess parties – next year kid’s parties are going to be all about the enchanted forest theme, with toadstool chairs, indoor trees and fairy garlands.

Tech

Sticking with the parenting theme, the latest techy gadgets that’ll be making waves are hands-free breast pumps, meaning there’s no cords, wires or bottles – Elvie’s latest breast pump simply slips inside your bra, meaning you can express on the go. Also, auto-rocking, white-noise-playing bassinets will be big for soothing babies off to sleep – and leaving parents to catch a few winks, too. 2019’s shaping up to be a pretty peaceful year…
