6 New London Bars To Try This Month

From the launch of possibly the most glamorous hotel bar ever to a rustic setting where you can explore natural wines by the glass, here are six new spots to try in the capital this month.

Aspen & Meursault, Battersea

Want to know more about the natural wine trend? A new rustic, yet classic, space has opened in Battersea with the aim of demystifying and celebrating low intervention wine. Starting with morning coffee and ending with evening drinks, the space transitions from one to the other and offers small plates throughout the day to complement your chosen beverage. Most of the wine is available by the glass, making it a great stop for enthusiasts keen to explore and expand their understanding of the industry’s offerings. We can’t wait to pop in and try the biodynamic Champagne with a side of hummus and artichoke dip.

Downstairs at Morito, Hackney

Hosting a weekly music night, Morito chef proprietors Sam and Sam Clark have opened a new bar underneath their restaurant. Every Tuesday there will be live music and on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings you can enjoy southern Spanish, eastern Mediterranean and North African dishes – just like the menu in the restaurant – but with a casual late-night bar atmosphere and a focus on cocktails. It’s the perfect combination of live music and delicious food.

The Painter’s Room at Claridge’s, Mayfair

Cocktails just got a whole lot more glamorous at the newest addition in Claridge’s, The Painter’s Room. Celebrating the art deco era with murals by artist Mary Lea and a creative installation by Annie Morris, the bar counter is made from blush pink stone – so clearly we love it – behind which cocktails are blended. The menu is divided into four chapters: Light, Interpretations, Complex and Clean; but the standout drink is ‘Saint Remy’ – a variation on a martini – inspired by Van Gogh’s Almond Blossom. It doesn’t get classier than that…

La Cave at The Hoxton, Holborn

Located below Rondo at The Hoxton, La Cave is a new wine bar and incubator kitchen offering lesser known, low intervention wine from small independent suppliers. As well as London’s biggest selection of bubbles, there will be rotating chef residencies. The first pop-up is Cantina Valentina, from chef Adam Rawson, whose menu features a range of dishes inspired by Peru. Think dishes like cheese wonton with a green chilli paste, or grilled duck magret with chirimoya membrio.

Bar La Rampa, Fitzrovia

Fancy a trip to Havana? Step inside this decadent den to celebrate all things Cuban. Rum cocktails, authentic small plates and regular live music combine to pay homage to 1950s Cuban cocktail culture, food, art and design. Mojitos and daiquiris are the focus of the menu, with variations including the ‘Papa Doble’’, a homage to Ernest Hemingway’s drink of choice, and the ‘Jennings Cox’ cocktail, named after the often-referenced inventor of the daiquiri.

Soma, Soho

If your ideal cocktail bar has simple, elegant interiors with a drinks list to match, head to Soma, the debut bar from the team behind Kricket.  There is a ‘less is more’ ethos in which seasonal ingredients and high-quality spirits take centre stage. Drinks include Mooli (Martini-style), made with Haku vodka, home-made curry leaf vermouth and garnished with a slice of pickled mooli, and Jaggery (Old Fashioned-style), a mix of Knob Creek bourbon, toasted coconut, mace and jaggery cane sugar.
