Quick Fire Beauty Questions, With Anya Taylor-Joy
The best beauty tip I’ve ever heard… is to always accentuate what you have, and play with what suits your individual features. You are beautiful and don’t need to hide anything – no matter what you might think.
My most-used make-up item… will always be sunscreen. Skinceuticals Tinted SPF50 is a dream to apply and wear as it’s so sheer. It’s my desert island product.
The last product I finished… was my SPF50 – it’s a mainstay in my beauty bag.
When I wake up, the first thing I do is… wash my face with the coldest water I can handle. It’s a great way of freshening up my skin and waking up my senses, too.
Before I go to sleep… I always try and get in a bit of a facial massage – even if it’s a tiny one with my hands and fingers, it makes a huge difference to the glow and plumpness of my skin.
An essential part of my beauty routine is… double cleansing. I didn’t really have a skincare regime until about two years ago, and I’ve only just learnt the importance of a double cleanse to fully remove the dirt and grime. It’s made a huge difference to my complexion – I don’t think I’ll ever go back.
The fragrance I’m loving right now… is Viktor & Rolf’s Flowerbomb Midnight. It’s warm, with a really creamy dry down.
My other favourite scent… will always be popcorn.
A high-street beauty buy I love is… lip tattoos. You can just apply them with your finger directly to your lips and they dry down like paint. It’s great for me being on-the-go all the time, but they’re also mask proof – which, as we all know, is very handy these days.
VIKTOR & ROLF
My current beauty obsession is… a book called ‘If I had Your Face’ by Frances Cha. It introduced me to Korean skincare regimes, which I hadn’t heard about before. They include a lot of essences – which are a mixture of an oil and a toner wrapped into one – and I’ve since added one into my own. It’s been so transformative for my skin.
I have one weird wellness ritual… which is communing with the moon. I sit down and commune with every new and full moon – it’s very cathartic for the senses.
My go-to beauty look… is a good feline flick. I love it for red carpets as it really accentuates and opens up my eyes.
Switching my hair colour to red was… a dream moment when I played Beth in ‘The Queen’s Gambit.’ I’ve always wanted to be a redhead and I’m glad it was her I got to be one with. I was convinced the character needed to be a redhead, so that was really fun and a truly memorable beauty moment.
For hair maintenance, I swear by… Philip Kingsley’s Elasticizer. It’s absolutely amazing and has saved my hair many times over from damage, while also keeping it looking shiny and healthy.
The beauty advice that I will always pass on…Is to use witch hazel and rosewater tonics. This was recommended to me by an expert and it works every single time to calm and soothe your skin at a pinch.
My favourite way to unwind… is by taking a bath. I get very ritualistic with them. I love to pour in some salts and almond oil. I’ll also take the time to mix up an essential oil blend so I can fully relax, boost my energy and scent my skin, simultaneously.
Finally, the only beauty regret I have is… wearing too much make-up. I always like my skin to breathe and look as natural as possible.
