Hive at Selfridge’s
Hive is a new honey-based restaurant at Selfridge’s. The restaurant serves a menu of French-inspired dishes and cocktails that use the highest-quality natural honey, made in part by the 100,000 resident bees that populate four beehives next to the restaurant. As well as a main menu, Hive serves breakfast and a selection of honey and cheese pairings to be enjoyed throughout the day, including comté and chestnut honey; and fourme d’ambert with buckwheat honey. For something special, Hive also has a cheese and honey afternoon tea experience, where diners are able to choose from a range of teas, Veuve Clicquot champagne, pastries and cheese to compliment the range of natural honeys.

Looking to end your weekend on a high? Critically acclaimed bar Lyaness is set to bring back its much-loved ‘Sunday Lyan’ series, kicking off on 25th July with award-winning Sri Lankan restaurant Hoppers. Guests can expect cocktail creations showcasing innovative Sri Lankan and South Asian flavour combinations and a selection of tasty bar snacks. Throughout the series, Lyaness will team up with a selection of top bars and restaurants from the UK, such as Scottish rum company Askival with chef and owner Craig Grozier; Andy Gemmel and his Glasgow pub The Gate; and London drinks companies Shop Cuvée, London Vermouth, Happy Endings, The Rare Tea Co and Affinity Brewery.

Guest Chef Series at Mortimer House
Following the success of its pre-pandemic events, Mortimer House has announced its latest ‘Guest Chef Series’. The event will begin with Abby Lee from Mambow on 24th July, who will be drawing inspiration from her Singaporean and Malaysian heritage – and her grandmother’s recipes – to serve traditional dishes such as braised pork belly in soybean; Malaysian fried chicken; crispy five-spice pork and prawn rolls with plum sauce and sriracha; and nyonya grey mullet curry with clams. Abby will serve a traditional Malaysian sugee cake for dessert, a fragrant cake made of semolina and almonds, topped with black sesame miso caramel and crème fraiche. Next up, Mortimer House will host Whyte Rushen, formerly of Brat and Scully; Dalston's cult restaurant Angelina; and a pop-up from plant-based chef Daniel Farrow.

The Nest Pop-Ups
This summer, the team behind popular Hackney restaurant Nest and recently opened Fenn in Fulham has launched a series of pop-up restaurants in rural locations across the UK. First up, Carreglwyd Bar and Kitchen will be floating on the lake of Carreglwyd Estate in Anglesey, serving up cocktails, wood-fired pizzas and Caribbean food. Following that, Nest will be popping up at Norfolk’s Houghton Festival. The floating restaurant on Houghton Lake will serve a number of breakfast specials and morning cocktails, followed by a set menu featuring smoked trout pâté, slow-braised pork belly with pickled slaw, burnt apple and charred cabbage; and the team’s version of an eton mess. Finally, Anglesey will be the location for its boathouse dinner on Trearddur Bay, running from 17th to 29th August. The two-week pop-up restaurant will celebrate regional produce from around the North Welsh coast.

The Travelling Feast
Travelling Feast is a new food, drink and music festival headed up by Michelin-starred chef Paul Ainsworth, which will be touring three locations across Cornwall this August. As festival founder and host, Cornwall-based restaurateur Paul will be cooking at each event, alongside a selection of Michelin-starred and award-wining chefs and their food trucks – think Tom Kerridge’s ‘Humble Pie’ truck and James Martin’s ice-cream van. Other Cornish food stars, such as Porthilly Oysters and The Shellfish Pig, will be on hand to keep everyone well fed, while the likes of Kaiser Chiefs, Sister Sledge and Faithless will headline the festival stage.

Fortnum & Mason X Ronnie Scott’s
Following the success of its sold-out one-night event earlier this month, the Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon at Fortnum & Mason is teaming up with London jazz institution Ronnie Scott’s for a series of ‘High Tea and Jazz’ evenings this August. Hosted each Thursday of the month, groups of up to 12 can book in to enjoy an evening of Ronnie Scott’s highly renowned jazz trios, alongside a selection of well-executed dishes. The high teas will come with a choice of lobster omelette with truffle; fresh baked Cornish brill with champagne sauce; puff pastry case of artichoke and confit peppers with basil pepper; or traditional Southwest PGI lamb wellington.

Bun House X Joo Won
Bun House, the Cantonese steamed bun street cafe in Chinatown, is set to welcome chef Joo Won for a two-month pop-up. Fresh from a recent sell-out residency at Carousel, Joo will be taking over the top floor, serving his signature menu of South Korean and European-inspired sharing dishes. Accompanied by wife Sujin – a renowned pastry chef with experience at The Wolseley and The Delaunay – the team will be serving a selection of feasting plates, including thinly sliced, lightly cured grey mullet served in a sesame, chilli and plum soy sauce; and Joo’s take on an Italian classic – kimchi and cheddar risotto topped with poached egg and seaweed crisp. We love the sound of the puddings: raspberry, peach and cream pavlova; and dark chocolate cremeaux with yuza marmalade, hoji tea and toasted grain cream.

Wildfarmed & Friends
Sustainable flour brand Wildfarmed is taking over Silas Yard in Bethnal Green for a week-long residency to highlight how food can fix the planet. Every night, a selection of talented chefs and bakers will demonstrate how every loaf of bread, slice of pizza and bowl of pasta can make a difference: MOB Kitchen's Thomas Straker will be serving focaccia with rosemary and olive oil, and tagliolini with artichokes, parsley, lemon and parmesan; Chantelle Nicholson, founder of Tredwell's and All's Well, will be cooking courgette and herb fritters with miso aioli, plus slow-cooked lamb belly, kimchi and cheese toasties; cult pasta favourite Burro e Salvia will be offering wholemeal orecchiette pasta with rich sausage ragu, and wholemeal summer truffle tortelli; lockdown hit Willy’s Pies will serve braised lamb shoulder pie or goats’ curd, pea and mint pasties with labneh and za’atar; and on the Friday, grill master Chris Roberts – aka Flamebaster – will be filling laver flatbreads with juniper-smoked Snowdonia mountain lamb, flame-basted lamb fat and pickles. Ice-cream sandwich company, Happy Endings, will be on hand every night, pairing their flavours to each dish.

East London’s music venue Night Tales has launched a new rooftop terrace – Willows – on the John Lewis Rooftop on Oxford Street. The outdoor terrace has been transformed with plants and sun loungers and has a dedicated area for DJ sets. When it comes to food, Gizzi Erskine and musician Professor Green – aka Giz’nGreen – are cooking up their popular pizza pies: expect a selection of Insta-worthy wood-fired, stuffed-crust pizzas. There’s also a bar serving summer-themed drinks as well as a speciality gin bar, offering cocktails such as Gimlets, Yuzu & Elderflower Collins and Dirty Martinis. The rooftop comes with a new dining area offering table service, alongside communal and private areas – ideal for anyone planning a party this summer.
