Me & My Instagram: Thérèse Hellström

Known for her bright and colourful outfits, Paris-based Influencer and fashion director Thérèse Hellström takes most of her fashion inspiration from French-girl style, as well as her Scandinavian roots. Here, she takes us behind-the-scenes of her Instagram, sharing her favourite images and the secret to nailing the shot every time…

My most liked photo is…

this one taken at Paris Fashion Week. I’m not entirely sure why it was so successful, but it’s a classic look, so maybe that’s why people liked it.

My favourite Instagram outfit is…

this one because I love the colour combination. Okay, so I’m wearing the same jacket as the last photo, but jeans and bright colours are my go-to almost every day – they work so well together.

The person who takes my Instagram pictures is…

sometimes my boyfriend, but I also work with several photographers in Paris.

My most saved photo is…

this one which was shot on the streets of Paris. It’s a little more muted than some of my usual outfits, but I love the juxtaposition of the WFH-inspired loungewear with some elevated accessories.

The way I edit my photos…

is a lot subtler these days. I try to edit them as little as possible, but I’ll usually up the warmth slightly.

I wasn’t sure whether to post this image.

I’m not mad on the background, as it doesn’t feel much like me. It served a purpose though, as these sorts of photos help the others stand out more.

The image that makes me happiest is…

of me and my boyfriend. The look on my face says it all!

I don’t really regret anything I’ve posted.

If I don’t like it, I’ll usually delete it soon after. Getting the right shot takes several attempts, too, although I’m trying to be less picky so the process can be a little quicker. That said, this outfit is a little boring – I’m not sure I’d post it now.

Stories are for…

storytelling. I love to share parts of my day, whether that’s my work at Custommade or shooting on the streets of Paris. I hope it gives my followers the chance to join me both in front of the camera and behind-the-scenes, too.

I don’t have a standard pose…

but I always find the photos where I’m smiling tend to feel the most inviting – not to mention the happiest.

The fashion piece that features the most…

is my selection of Chanel handbags. I’m lucky enough to own four now, each in a different fabric, as I love the contrast. I have suede, tweed, leather and patent – my current favourite is this bright pink one.

The hardest photo to get was…

wearing this multicoloured dress. It was one of those pieces that needed a bit of movement to really show it off, and it’s always difficult to nail that kind of photo while making it look relaxed and not too forced.

The coolest setting has been…

this image I took in Capri, Italy. The way my friends are positioned in the photo gives it a bit of a Slim Aarons look, I think.

My favourite holiday photo…

was taken in Mykonos  a couple of years ago. I find travel pictures so inspiring, which made it difficult to pick just one.

This is my favourite photo of myself.

It was taken at Copenhagen Fashion Week, but the colours and my smile make me really happy when I look at it.

A good Instagram photo…

captures someone’s attention for more than just a second. We’re fed so many images these days, so a picture has to say something for it to resonate.

My favourite accounts to follow on Instagram are…

French fashion journalists, like Emmanelle Alt, the Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Paris. Her account is one of my go-tos when I need some inspiration.

I try to upload pictures that…

inspire other people, either in a creative or an intellectual way. Whether that’s outfits, writing, exhibitions or just views of Paris…

The photo that sums up my Instagram best is…

this one. It’s colourful and happy, with plenty of outfit inspiration – plus, that Parisian touch.
