5 Ways To Get More From Your Bronzer

5 Ways To Get More From Your Bronzer

Get yourself a good bronzer, and you can fake a vacation-like glow all year round. Here, three experts explain how to get the most out of this product, including how to apply it and the best formulas to try…

1. Choose A Creamy Texture

“A lot of bronzers can be powdery, which often results in an unflattering, grey finish,” says Fenty
Beauty
’s Global Make-Up Artist & Ambassador, Priscilla Ono. “Fenty’s formulas are creamy with
pigment that’s smooth and silky, so they’re easy to blend. This type of texture allows you to add
natural warmth to your skin without a shimmer finish, which can often be ageing, too. Another
bonus with creams is a little goes a very long way and the payoff is richer than most bronzing
powders.”

2. Find The Right Colour

“My rule is, don’t go more than two shades deeper than your skin tone when choosing a bronzer,”
adds make-up artist and SL beauty columnist, Lisa Potter-Dixon. “Your bronzer should enhance the
shape of your face, not make you look like you’ve rolled in a muddy puddle. If you have a fair to
medium complexion, stick with a golden or peach shade. For olive and dark skin tones, pick
something with an orangey-red undertone. I love Elf’s Bronzer Palette in Deep Bronze.”

3. Make It Multi-Task

“Bronzing formulas have come a long way, including Chanel’s cult bronzer which has been newly
reformulated with coconut oil for a creamier finish,” says make-up artist Zoe Taylor. “These types of
textures allow you to multi-task as they’re easier to blend and layer – the lack of shimmer in Chanel's latest offering is a bonus, too. It means you can use it for shading, especially around the lip line to enhance the natural shape. Try using bronzer as an eyeshadow as well, blended into the sockets for a beautiful, warm contour around the eye. You can try contouring and changing the architecture of your face, as well. Apply bronzer with a tapered powder brush, adding colour under the cheekbones and into the temples, then further define the cheekbones and either side of the nose with a smaller eyeshadow-size fluffy brush.”

4. Vary The Shade

“Try varying the shades you use, I like to have two on rotation,” adds Priscilla. “I tend to go for
deeper, darker bronzers to add depth and subtle definition, which is great for an evening look. For
daytime, though, keep a shade that’s close to your natural skin tone nearby, it’s softer and will wear
better throughout the day.”

5. Practice Your Application

“Remember – three is the magic number,” advises Lisa. “Sweeping your bronzer brush in a figure of
three either side of the face is the simplest way to sculpt day-to-day. Start at the forehead, go down
under the cheekbone and then under the jaw line. Repeat on the other side. Finish by dusting the
excess down the neck. This technique will create a shadow that will emphasise your features and
give you a healthy glow.”
