24 Antiques We Love This Month

In this monthly feature, we aim to take the hard work out of sourcing antiques. Whether it’s a refined Regency table or a distressed Swedish treasure, here’s what we’ve spied online...

Buffet Cupboard, £3,995

Originating from the north of Sweden, this Gustavian buffet cupboard features doors adorned with diamond reeded motifs, two internal drawers over two deep shelves, and the original dry scraped white paint, with a hint of mint. Perfect for an entrance hall, dining room, living room, bedroom or boot room.

Demilune Console Table, £1,750

This Victorian walnut demilune console table comes with the original marble top surmounted by a brass gallery rail, and dates from around 1880. It’s beautifully decorative and well made – a piece which would have been considered the height of sophistication and good taste in the Regency era.

We’re obsessed with this French 19th-century two-seater sofa, which has been recently reupholstered using fabric from Susan Deliss, a designer whose patterns are becoming increasingly popular. The ideal compact piece that still delivers on style.

This decorative pair of painted Swedish side tables dating from circa 1870 would look lovely in a bedroom. The scallop edge and carved tripped legs are seriously pretty, and if you love antiques but aren’t keen on the heavier brown look, then this painted design is ideal.

Dating back to 1930s Denmark, this art deco curved sofa is still upholstered in the original velour yellow-coloured fabric. With its deep curving shape and high segmented back, the piece is finished with decorative brass studs and fringing.

Wooden Settle, £540

This Hungarian pine settle has been soda treated to take it back to the original wood finish and bring out the grain throughout. The simple panelled back and wavy detail on the sides make it an interesting addition to any hallway or boot room.

The Swedes are known for their cleverly designed corner cabinets and this pale but interesting design is a prime example. Featuring a deeply carved decorative frieze, you’ll find two panelled doors open up to reveal plenty of storage space.

Upholstered Armchair, £595

Dating from around 1860, this high-quality, traditionally-upholstered, 19th-century chair comes with walnut front legs, which still have the original brass castors. Currently, this buttoned back antique armchair is upholstered in a pink fabric, which is still in fairly good, clean condition.
