Firstly, Consistency Is Key

“My body care routine is just as serious as the one I have for my face. It’s not six or seven steps – no routine needs to be that lengthy – but it is consistent, as that’s the only way to see results. Just like the face, the same rules apply to your body: for instance, sun safety is key, as is hydration and exfoliation. Likewise, if your skin barrier is damaged, you need to repair it with hydrating, nourishing formulas. An impaired skin barrier on your body will often show up in symptoms like dryness, flakiness and itchiness.”

The Shower Is A Good Place To Start

“If you don’t want the faff, maximise your shower time. I’ll always use an exfoliating body wash like Murad’s AHA/BHA cleanser. It works wonders for treating breakouts on my back, but also for clearing red, under-the-skin bumps, all while keeping you feeling fresh and clean. You can body brush in the shower too, or just before you step in. I do this once or twice a week for better blood flow and to remove dead cells that make my skin look dull. It doesn’t need to take forever, just a few quick flicks is all you need.”

Damp Skin Is Best For Application

“Products tend to work better when they’re applied to damp – rather than wet – skin. I’ve got into the habit of applying mine just as I step out of the shower as everything absorbs so easily. I’ll always apply a body serum afterwards as they have a thinner texture that delivers potent ingredients far more efficiently than thick, buttery creams. I really rate Necessaire’s Body Serum. Full of hyaluronic acid, ceramides and anti-reddening niacinamide, it strengthens skin and seals in moisture. If I need an extra layer, I’ll pick up CeraVe’s Moisturising Cream which locks in all the benefits of the serum, as well as binding in any residual water.”

Everyone Should Own A Good Oil

“If I only had one product in my routine, it would be a good oil. Nothing delivers hydration as quickly. I love La Mer’s The Renewal Body Oil Balm. It has the most luxurious texture and gives my skin such a bouncy glow – it’s seriously addictive. I use it only on special occasions because of the price. For a more budget option, I love Biossance’s 100% Squalane Oil – I really notice a difference in my skin’s texture and tone after I use either of these products.”

Liquid Exfoliants Work Well On Feet

“I love to use a liquid facial exfoliant on my feet. My favourite is The Ordinary’s Glycolic Toning Solution. Just a small amount will instantly soothe dry patches and calluses. I recommend doing this a few times a week – you’ll see a difference in a matter of weeks.”

Evenings Require A Different Approach

“I recommend switching out a heavy-duty body wash for something gentler and more natural to help you unwind. The Grown Alchemist Body Cleanser is full of botanical ingredients that coat skin in lasting hydration. It also contains citric fruits to gently buff and exfoliate the skin – you’ll notice it feels softer the minute you rinse it off.”

Finally, A Bath Can Help Bind Moisture To Your Skin

“If you’re lucky enough to have a bath tub, fill it with skin-loving products and oils. As these absorb into the water, they’ll adhere to your skin as you sit and soak. I love to add a handful of Anatome’s Skin Restoring & Muscle Relaxing Bath Salts – they’re full of magnesium, Himalayan salt and lavender. They practically guarantee a good night’s sleep. Plus, if you suffer with itchy skin or dryness, you’ll find magnesium is a real comfort. I also recommend the Seed To Skin Bath Nectar. It’s an investment, but it works well to soothe weary muscles while flooding skin with hydrating ingredients like sunflower seed oil.”
