The Ffern Background…

Founded by siblings Emily Cameron and Owen Mears in 2018, Ffern was inspired by the Somerset family home they grew up in and scents from a local organic herb farm – think fresh-cut hay, roses, cinnamon and cardamom. Today, Ffern has become a favourite among industry insiders. Launched as a small-batch organic-scent subscription service, all of its gender-neutral fragrances were created with expert perfumers François Robert and Elodie Durande. Four are released every year, on the equinox and solstice dates, with each one capturing a particular place, feel and season. They’re only available for three months, before being reimagined the following year.

Ffern is the FIRST plastic-free fragrance maker and it only uses COMPOSTABLE packaging for no throwaway guilt.

The Subscription Explained…

Ffern was one of the first fragrance brands to use a subscription-based model. Working to a set list, the Ffern 'ledger' produces one bottle for every name signed up, so waste is always kept to a minimum. To join the exclusive list, simply sign up via Ffern’s website. You’ll pay £79 to receive each seasonally inspired scent, released at the equinoxes and solstices. Better still, once you join, you can have your say. You’ll be able to liaise with the Ffern team to tell them what you did and didn’t like about the scent, which will influence how they design fragrances in the future. 

The Sustainable Credits…

From ingredient sourcing to fragrance production, every step of the Ffern fragrance journey is sustainable. As the first plastic-free fragrance maker, you can expect your scents to be housed in compostable mycelium packaging, so when you’re finished, you never get that throwaway guilt. The bottle itself has been stripped right back - the typically plastic lid replaced with a recycled corrugate tube. There is nothing they haven’t thought of when it comes to generating zero landfill.

The Latest Product To Try…

Ffern’s latest launch – Spring 22 – is not to be missed. Launched on the Spring Equinox, 20th March, the brand collaborated with Michelin-starred chef Skye Gyngell to create something that’s the very epitome of spring. Expect floral notes combined with flavours cherry-picked by Skye, including gooseberry, elderflower, pink peppercorn and orange blossom. It’s crisp and zesty, yet perfectly balanced.
