Altra Skin Eau De Parfum
£168 | Altra Profuture
DNA: Soft Musks & Botanicals
USP: There’s no denying this is expensive, but the speed at which it went viral can’t be ignored. It’s been described as ‘your skin, but better’ and, though the term is sometimes overused, it’s true in this case. It’s clean, comforting and guaranteed to make you feel good. Containing just one key fragrance accord, it’s not complicated but still manages to grab attention.

Molecule 01 Fragrance
£115 | Escentric Molecules
DNA: Iso E Super
USP: Launched in 2006, this remains one of the industry’s most popular scents thanks to its ability to blend with the wearer’s natural pheromones. Perfumer Geza Shoen wanted to focus on one key ingredient – ‘Iso E Super’ – which had been used in perfumery since the mid-1970s. Initially taking a single dose of this synthetic molecule to create a perfume that utilised 65% of it, when that proved successful, he went full throttle and used it in its entirety for ‘Molecule 01’. As for the scent, it’s warm, velvety and full of amber and wood. The longevity is impressive too – unlike similar natural fragrances, it lingers for hours on the skin.

Mojave Ghost Eau De Parfum
£150 | Byredo
DNA: Magnolia, Sandalwood, Musks, Vetiver & Violet
USP: Byredo has several skin scents – Gypsy Water and Blanche are two contenders but Mojave Ghost stands out to us. It’s the definition of ‘clean’ – creamy, powdery and leaves you feeling fresh. No wonder Ouai also used this scent to formulate its limited-edition dry shampoo.

Paper Personal Eau De Parfum
£135 | Commodity
DNA: Iso E Super, Skin Musk & Amber
USP: Niche brand Commodity has cleverly woven ISO E Super into its cult fragrance Paper. Like Escentric Molecules, this fragrance feels personal to the wearer, playing with your skin’s chemistry for a tailored scent that lasts. It’s introspective and sensual – you can expect compliments . On first spritz, it’s quite sharp, but as it softens and dissipates, you’ll find it becomes warmer.

You Doux Eau De Parfum
£62 | Glossier
DNA: Sweet Violet, Frankincense, Myrrh & Ambrox Musk
USP: It’s been seven years since Glossier dropped its You fragrance. Now, it’s expanded with two more: You Doux and You Rêve. Without doubt, the former is our favourite, but it’s also the one that works better with your skin, hence the name ‘doux’ which means soft in French. It has the same base DNA as You but with added depth thanks to notes of frankincense and ambrox musk. There’s also an almond and milky quality to this. If there was a fragrance equivalent of a silk negligee, this would be it.

Entre Genres Parfum
£195 | Infiniment Coty Paris
DNA: Musk & Tangerine
USP: Musk and citrusy tangerine is an unusual combination, but it works so well. Soft and subtle, it’s the type of scent you want to wear all day because it’s just so good. It has an intimate feel to it and is very unobtrusive. Perfect for anyone who likes just a hint of fragrance and nothing too overpowering.

Now stocked at Space NK, the clean fragrance brand is vegan, unisex and simple in its execution. Its Xtra Milk EDP is a bestseller. L'Eau Papier Eau De Toilette
£129 | Diptyque Paris
DNA: Blonde Wood, White Musk & Mimosa
USP: Think of the smell you get when you open a fresh bag of jasmine rice, then add musk and a soft, subtle woody character and you get close to what Diptyque’s L’Eau Papier is like. It’s a cosy, aromatic fragrance that stays on the skin for hours, and feels both comforting and nostalgic. Ideal if you dislike sweeter scents, but want something that still feels fresh and feminine.

Father Figure Eau De Parfum
£99 | Phlur
DNA: Waterlily, Fig, Iris Flower, Jasmine Dew & Skin Musks
USP: Everyone says Missing Person is Phlur’s best skin scent but we would have to disagree – for us, it’s all about Father Figure. Easy to wear, this is full of musks that complement everyone. It has a laidback feel we love, while added sandalwood and patchouli leaf add a little sex appeal.

For Her Pure Musc Eau De Parfum
£63 | Narciso Rodriguez
DNA: Amber, Musk, Peach & Woods
USP: Narciso Rodriguez’s For Her is one of the best scents of all time and falls nicely into the category of skin scents. It’s also one of the best in the mid-price bracket. A floral musk, it has a feminine feel that’s velvety and rich. There’s a naughtiness to it that has remained over the years, making it a great option for evenings out.

Absolu Eau De Parfum
£210 | Trudon

It’s a light floral but in a way that is never cloying or stuffy – it has a sunny quality that melts into your skin and stays put too. One to reach for when you want something fresh but interesting, it manages to combine depth and softness, which is what makes it so unique.
