Product Spotlight: Vieve Eye Wands
The Background…
Jamie Genevieve is one of the UK’s leading beauty YouTubers, as well as a make-up artist with decades of experience under her belt. It’s no wonder that when she launched her own line in 2019, people paid attention. Among a strong line-up of lipsticks, make-up palettes and face products, Vieve’s Eye Wands rapidly started gaining traction with beauty fans. With a rounded tip, the wands are easy to apply all over the lid for full-on colour or you can use the edge of the bullet to precisely line the lower lashes. Often spied in make-up artists’ kits backstage and on Instagram and TikTok, a popular shade is ‘Hazelnut’ – a chic alternative to black.
What Founder Jamie Genevieve Says…
Jamie herself says she wanted these shadow sticks to do a bit of everything. “It was key that the shadows came in a range of modern, nude, multitasking shades so anyone could achieve an easy, expert eye in seconds. The formula also had to offer maximum versatility. Each one is made in South Korea and while there’s plenty of time to play, once they do set, they won’t budge.”
Why Insiders Swear By Them…
Ultimately, it’s the texture that makes these wands so unique. Creamy and smooth, they’re ideal for eye make-up novices as well as more experienced make-up junkies who want to create different looks. Just scribble them on – there’s no need for precision here – and buff them into the lid using either your fingers or a soft, fluffy brush. They blend like a dream and work with other shades and products. Spanning taupes, vanillas, burgundies and hazelnuts, there’s a shade for everyone, with eight matte and five shimmer options perfect for party season.
How To Make The Most Of Them…
While they certainly stand on their own, these shadow sticks can also be used to prime lids for other products. Make-up artist Levi-Jade Taylor loves them for exactly this reason: “I often use the shade ‘Vanilla’ as a base on the lids. Use it to sketch out the shape of your eyelid, before blending it out with your fingers or a brush. Thanks to the tacky texture, the shadows act as a great base for any shimmer or other pigment you want to apply on top, which will increase the longevity of any eye look you create.”
The Tips & Tricks To Know…
If you’re using a Vieve Eye Wand to create a smokey eye, Jamie advises rolling them directly over your lids. “Use your finger – or a brush – to buff the colour out evenly. Depending on how dramatic you want the look to be, try applying ‘Espresso’ or ‘Raven’ on top before buffing out as well. Add a bit more of that same shade into your crease and outer corner, patting the colour in with your fingers to create further dimension. Finish off with a shimmery tone – like ‘Blush Quartz’ – in the inner corner of the eye. If you want more of a feline flick, swipe an angled brush over the tip of the stick to pick up some colour, then use it to sketch a precise line across your lashes. For a bit more drama, apply it directly along your lash line and use a smaller brush to shape the colour into a wing.”
