How To Properly Protect Your Skin From The Sun

We all know the number one cause of skin damage is harmful UVA and UVB rays – which is why it’s essential to use sunscreen every day, no matter what the weather. Boost Your SPF With An Antioxidant Serum

Our skin is constantly under attack from environmental aggressors such as the sun and pollution during the day, which is why it’s worth boosting the effectiveness of your SPF by including an antioxidant serum in your morning skincare routine. Antioxidants protect your skin against the damaging effects of these environmental aggressors and are best applied in a serum form so they can penetrate the skin for best results. Together with an SPF, it’s the best form of protection.

Choose Broad-Spectrum Protection & Factor 30+

You want to make sure your sunscreen comes with both UVA and UVB protection. Broad spectrum protection guards your skin against both UVA rays that prematurely age the skin and cause wrinkles and hyperpigmentation, and UVB rays that cause sunburn. Meanwhile, the factor indicates how long it would take the sun to burn your skin. For example, if you were to wear an SPF30, it would take you 30 times longer to burn than if you weren’t wearing sunscreen at all. I would highly recommend choosing at least an SPF30 or above. Studies show that SPF30 protects against 97% of the sun’s UVB rays. It is also important to know your skin tone and skin type, as this can affect what kind of SPF you go for. Those that are fair skinned should choose an SPF50 and frequently reapply.

Protect Sensitive Areas

The skin around our eyes and lips is incredibly delicate but they’re often the areas we tend to neglect when it comes to applying SPF. They are also the first areas to show the signs of ageing, so it’s important to pay particular attention and apply a targeted lip balm or eye cream with added sun protection. There are so many options available these days.

Finally, Re-Apply Throughout The Day

We all know we should reapply sunscreen throughout the day, but this can be challenging – especially when you’re wearing make-up. Experts recommended you reapply your sunscreen every couple of hours – especially if it’s very hot – and luckily, there are now several options that exist to make this more convenient. From SPF that doubles up as a setting spray to powders that include SPF, there’s something to suit everyone.
