THAT Concept Store

This design-driven concept store has made a splash in the Arabian Gulf. It has an outlet at the City Centre Mirdif mall, but for the full experience you want its three-floor flagship in the Mall of the Emirates. And don’t think you’re just going there to shop. Sure, there are the latest wares from on-point brands like Anine Bing and Erdem to browse, but there’s also a beauty hub, a fitness studio and even a laundry service.

Garderobe

Fashion buyer Micha Maatouk was one of the first to spot the opportunity around pre-loved fashion in Dubai. She opened Garderobe in 2010 and hasn’t looked back. It’s a regional leader for online pre-loved designer – pieces from Chanel, Hermés, Dior and LV show up regularly – but it also has a physical presence on Al Wasl Road for in-person explorations.

La Suite…

French-girl favourites Isabel Marant and Sézane sit alongside grande dames like Saint Laurent and Gucci at this Parisian-style vintage outlet. Set within the Home & Soul shop on Al Wasl Road, La Suite’s showroom is the best place to explore its collection of premium pre-loved fashion – and you’ll also find new products from brands chosen for their green credentials.

Dubai Mall

In the shadow of the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall is a record-breaking presence in its own right. It’s the world’s largest indoor shopping centre and it houses more than 1,200 retail outlets, including outposts of Galeries Lafayette and Bloomingdale’s. Head for the polished floors of Fashion Avenue to lose yourself in a glittering array of big names. Afterwards, you might want the ground-floor’s Level Shoes – this sprawling luxe retailer offers Margaret Dabbs foot treatments to take the edge off.

Kage

If you make it to Galeries Lafayette or Bloomingdale’s in Dubai Mall, you might notice Kage – a local label with a playful aesthetic. It’s also got its own store on Al Khayat Art Avenue. Alongside the core womenswear, there’s a jewellery collection built around statement earrings in bright colours, while Kage Home is all about bright, simple homewares, and Kage Kids goes big on timeless summer linens.

Bouguessa

Working out of a studio in the Dubai Design District, classically trained tailor Faiza Bouguessa designs three collections a year for her ready-to-wear label. Over the last decade, her feminine take on minimalist sophistication has caught the eye of A-listers like Beyoncé and retailers including NET-A-PORTER. Her standalone store is the ultimate showcase of everything she can do.

Gold & Diamond Park

This air-conditioned mall close to the Mall of the Emirates is, naturally, a hub of gold and diamond jewellery stores. There are getting on for 100 of them in total – and all have had their wares authenticated. Many have workshops on site, so you can commission bespoke pieces that will be ready in a few days. Dubai refunds its 5% VAT to tourists on bigger purchases, but the key thing to know before you shake hands on anything at the Gold & Diamond Park is that the prices in the windows are not the seller’s best prices. Be ready to negotiate.
