What’s New & Noteworthy In Travel
THE SAFARI:
Paradise Plains, Kenya
Paradise Plains is a new luxury safari camp from The Wilder Group. Set in one of the most coveted areas of Africa’s Maasai Mara National Reserve, Paradise Plains is in one of the Mara’s most prolific wildlife zones, home to an abundance of wildlife all year-round – including large elephant herds that frequently graze across the plains in front of the camp and lions (such as the world-famous members of the Marsh Pride). Combining safari heritage with elegant, design-led accommodation, Paradise Plains also comes with a gym, spa, infinity pool overlooking the open plains, as well as several dedicated spaces for drinking and dining.

THE SUMMER HOTSPOT:
Na Praia, Portugal
Na Praia is the newest addition drawing attention back to Portugal’s untamed Alentejo shoreline. Set between the Atlantic and a protected nature reserve just north of Comporta, the hotel feels deliberately low-key: sandy paths, dune-facing suites for adults and larger houses and villas for families who want space without losing the barefoot mood. Interiors mirror the landscape – pale woods, natural textures, wide terraces – while four restaurants and bars lean into raw seafood, wood-fired cooking and coastal produce. With its quiet architecture and crowd-free setting, it’s a polished alternative to Comporta’s busier beach scene.

THE SCANDI RETREAT:
Ytri, Norway
Opening in April, Ytri is set to become one of Europe’s most extraordinary remote retreats – a high‑design island hotel perched on the outer edge of Norway’s Helgeland coast. About 60km offshore, the property sits among sharp peaks and weather‑beaten islets, offering 38 rooms, suites and villas, all with panoramic sea views and sightlines to the iconic Trænstaven mountain. Guests can expect an experience that blends wilderness with comfort: an Arctic‑inspired wellness area, saunas, an indoor-outdoor spa, a boathouse, and a seafood‑led restaurant serving multi‑course tasting menus. Designed as a destination in itself, Ytri brings architecture, nature and stillness together at the literal edge of the horizon.

THE TROPICAL HIDEAWAY:
ESH Hotel, Costa Rica
Nosara has long been a magnet for surfers and wellness seekers and the newly opened ESH Hotel brings a more design‑driven, adults‑only take to the jungle. Set in the Nicoya Blue Zone – where longevity is a way of life – the 29 suites and villas sit deep in the rainforest, with canopy‑level terraces, outdoor jungle baths and private plunge pools. Interiors are earthy and serene: lava‑stone tubs, blackened wood and a central fire where guests can cast intentions. Days centre on cold plunges, movement sessions and slow rituals at the spa, while restaurant Almar serves Pacific‑Mexican dishes. Sustainability runs through everything, from local sourcing to tree‑planting projects that help regenerate Nosara’s coastline.

THE COMO GETAWAY:
Villa Lario, Lake Como
One travel trend we’re leaning into this year is high glamour – read our trend report here. And few places capture that sense of la dolce vita quite like Lake Como. There’s no shortage of glamorous stays, but Villa Lario offers something quieter and more intimate. Set on a private stretch of shoreline in Pognana Lario, the boutique hotel occupies an 18th-century villa with just a handful of suites, each with sweeping lake views and a contemporary, understated design. Guests can spend days drifting between the infinity pool carved into the cliffside, the hotel’s private jetty for boat trips, and long lunches on the terrace overlooking the water. With its discreet service, serene gardens and away-from-the-crowds setting, Villa Lario is one of Como’s most refined hideaways for a grown-up escape.
