Everything Our Senior Fashion Editor Packs For Holiday

Packing for a quick weekend getaway should be concise, cohesive and, of course, stylish. Here’s how SL’s senior fashion editor Charlotte Collins does it.

Irene Dress, £285, Casa Raki

Let’s start with the basics. A hardworking, unfussy dress is essential for throwing on over swimsuits – I love this simple Casa Raki style. It also doubles up as a great evening dress – just add strappy sandals and go.

Available at CasaRaki.com

Lorelei Dress, £302, LoveShackFancy

For something a little more playful, I always throw in a short dress – you can’t beat one of LoveShackFancy’s. The Lorelai dress has come with me on so many trips – it’s reversible, too, so you can switch it up from day to night.

Available at Revolve.com

Oversized Linen Shirt, £65, &Other Stories

My favourite hack for looking chic on the beach is throwing a linen shirt over everything. My & Other Stories style is a favourite – it’s perfectly oversized and looks very flattering tied around your waist, too.

Available at Stories.com

Issa Sienna Slip Dress, £340, Olivia Von Halle

Silky slips are a holiday essential – they roll up into a tiny ball in your carry on and are dress code-proof, so you can basically wear them anywhere. Olivia Von Halle is the way to go.

Andrea Maxi, £262 (was £375), Cloe Cassandro

It may seem like I have a lot of dresses in my hand luggage, but these Cloe Cassandro dresses are so lightweight they take up zero space and add a much-needed dose of glamour to your beach look. I try to stick to a relatively neutral palette for holiday, and this black and white version will work hard for you.

Available at CloeCassandro.com

Light Blue Swim Set, Dé Rococo

Israeli brand De Rococo does some of the best simple high-waisted bikinis out there. I tend to flit between one-pieces and these styles – they’re surprisingly flatting. This blue version, plus that linen shirt, equals a winning beach combo.

Available at De-Rococo.com

Restore Linen Pyjamas, £155, Lunya

I invested in a pair of linen PJs a few summers ago and haven’t looked back. Holiday calls for stylish sleepwear, and this pair will keep you cool and looking good in those pre-dinner hours, too.

Available at MatchesFashion.com

Koffa Panier, £95, Daylesford

My top packing tip: use a big straw bag to travel. This Daylesford option is a little different to the baskets out there and will fit your iPad and headphones for the flight, as well as everything you want to take to the beach or the pool once you get there.

Available at Daylesford.com

Esme Clutch, £345, Cult Gaia

This Cult Gaia evening bag is a summer win – I always pack mine with travel essentials to make it worth taking.

Available at NET-A-PORTER.com

Tulipan Straw Boater, £248, Free People

Because… parting burn is real – if you know, you know. Free People has one of the coolest summer hat edits out there this season.

Leather Sandals, £195, Porter & Paire

I only ever take one pair of sandals on holiday with me. It’s so rare you’ll need heels, especially in Europe in the summer, and the right silk dress and bag combo negates the need for anything other than a simple pair.

Available at NET-A-PORTER.com

Panarea Earrings, £140, By Alona

I’ve often packed umpteen pieces of jewellery for a holiday and ended up not wearing them; in fact, I’m usually just worried about them sitting in the hotel room all day. These days, I keep in simple and chuck my favourite By Alona hoops into my carry on – they’re the perfect balance between cool and glam.

Available at ByAlona.com

Jimmy Fairly Sunglasses

The one thing I don’t hold back on is sunnies. They can make or break a look, so I’ll pack four or five pairs – even for a quick trip.
