Polly’s Copenhagen Fashion Week Diary

Now considered the unofficial start of fashion month, Copenhagen Fashion Week is known for its colourful, playful vibe – and SL’s fashion broadcaster Polly Sayer was on the ground in the Danish capital to find out what’s in store for AW25. From the shows to the food, here’s everything she got up to…

TUESDAY

Day 1

After arriving on Monday afternoon and getting settled into my hotel, Tuesday is when the real fun begins. I’m staying at 25 Hours Hotel in Indre By, which turns out to be very centrally located and within a 15-minute walk of a few shows in my diary. This is ideal, as the less time spent outside in the cold the better, and taxis can be expensive here. I’ve only got one show today, Rolf Ekroth, which isn’t until the evening, so I use the morning to get some content shot for a couple of brands I’m working with this week.

I wore an Aligne trench, which is CLEVERLY REVERSIBLE, Aligne jeans, Vehla sunglasses and Miu Miu loafers.

At lunchtime, I head to Apollo Bar for an event with Aligne, hosted by fellow content creator Hollie Mercedes. Apollo is opposite the famous Nyhavn stretch of colourful buildings and is a lovely spot for lunch or dinner. I wore an Aligne trench, which is cleverly reversible, Aligne jeans, Vehla sunglasses and Miu Miu loafers which I found on eBay. The food was excellent, particularly the boiled eggs with pistachio (trust me) and of course, the Danish whipped butter and bread.

After getting back to the hotel, replying to some emails and doing some editing, it’s time for my second outfit change of the day for this evening’s show. I’m wearing a pretty epic burgundy Mongolian coat from De Savary, which proves to be the real MVP of this week, keeping me both cosy and chic. I team it with some burgundy adidas tracksuit bottoms, silver trainers by Alohas and statement silver earrings from my collection with Daisy London. My only regret is not wearing a pair of gloves for the bike journey there…

After the show finishes, I meet up for dinner with my friend Anna Cascarina at Goldfinch, a Chinese sharing plates restaurant – the pork bao buns and crispy aubergine are an absolute must-order.

Baum und Pferdgarten

WEDNESDAY

Day 2

I’m marathon training right now, so I have to prioritise running while I’m here. I’m grateful that my friend Rachel, who works for Ganni, messages to suggest a morning jog before work. I’ve been working out in the hotel gym so far, so it was lovely to get out for an hour with someone who knows the best running routes around the city. I treat myself to a coffee and a cardamom bun at La Cabra afterwards – there are plenty of great coffee spots in Copenhagen, but this is one to visit if you’re in the area.

I’m working with a haircare brand while I’m out here and part of the job is having my hair done by one of the brand’s stylists and capturing some content (someone’s got to do it). I’m not normally a fan of having my hair done by someone I’m not familiar with, but the finished look is cute, sleek and with lightly kicked out ends. After this, my friend and photographer Beatrice joins me to shoot a couple more jobs I have booked this week, before I head back to the hotel to get changed for Baum und Pferdgarten. The brand has offered to dress me, which means I get to borrow a look from the current collection – I’m wearing a brown patent leather skirt with a long-sleeved graphic tee, with ankle socks, kitten heels from Reserved, a long denim coat from COS, plus my trusty ME+EM suede bag complete with some charms from Free People

The show itself is brilliant, with plenty of animal print, cosy tailored coats and, reassuringly, lots of purple and deep red, so we’re guaranteed at least another autumn/winter of burgundy. After the show, I meet up with Beatrice and two other friends, Xanthe and Poppy, for dinner. Xanthe’s a chef, so naturally has a long list of foodie recommendations. We end up at OMAR, a cosy, low-key restaurant that ends up being one of the tastiest, most affordable places I’ve eaten in Copenhagen.

THURSDAY

Day 3

With most of my content work done, today is all about hitting up a few more shows. First up is Munthe, which I decide to brave the 20-minute walk to attend. I almost immediately regret it thanks to some icy wind and the incompatible skirt I’ve chosen to wear. At the very least, my top half is more appropriately dressed – I’ve styled the Baum und Pferdgarten skirt from last night with a COS knit, Munthe gilet, Miu Miu loafers and M&S knee-high stockings. This collection is probably my favourite I’ve seen from Munthe, with lots of sumptuous faux fur coats and culottes styled with ankle boots – not a combination I thought I’d love, but it really works on the runway. I make a quick pit stop after the show at Hart Bakery for a coffee and an excellent cinnamon twist, before treating myself to a taxi back to the hotel for some laptop work.

ROTATE Birger Christensen

Later, it’s time to head out to my penultimate show, Gestuz. I always look forward to this one, as the clothes always exude glamour with a bit of an edge. Again, I’ve been dressed for the show, so I’m wearing a washed grey, utilitarian denim jacket and jeans by Gestuz with Reserved heels and a COS tee underneath. The show doesn’t disappoint, with more faux fur and burgundy, but my personal highlight was a rhinestone, sheer top that I’ve earmarked for next year’s Christmas party.

The show itself is brilliant, with plenty of animal print, cosy tailored coats and, reassuringly, lots of purple and deep red, so we’re GUARANTEED at least another AUTUMN/WINTER OF BURGUNDY.

Finally, I head off to the ROTATE show, but not before another outfit change. The brand has loaned me a white satin minidress with floral appliqué, which feels quite on-brand now that I’m planning a wedding. I style it with the De Savary coat, knee-high stockings and Reserved heels, as well as a slouchy Damson Madder bag. The show opens with a live DJ set before the models begin walking – you get a sense that they’re really feeling it. It’s exciting to see some more sculptural pieces in the collection, like a red, wide-brim skirt that’s almost lampshade-like. While not exactly practical, the more frivolous pieces are balanced out by sexy draped dresses and long faux fur coats that explain why ROTATE is the brand cool girls want to be seen in.

What a way to close an epic week – I’m up early for a flight home, so I sadly miss the afterparty but I swing by Jagger for a quick cheeseburger and fries to fuel my packing. Until next time, Copenhagen.
