Everything You Need To Know About The 2025 Golden Globes

Last night, awards season kicked off with the 82nd annual Golden Globes. From ‘The Substance’ to ‘Baby Reindeer’, these were the big winners of the night – plus, the SL fashion team share their favourite red carpet looks.

Demi Moore’s Triumphant Return

After a long hiatus from the spotlight, Demi Moore made a brilliant return to the Golden Globes, clinching the award for Best Actress for her role in The Substance. The 62-year-old’s heartfelt speech was a highlight of the evening as she opened up about the struggles she faced before landing the role. “I was at a low point before I was cast in The Substance,” she revealed as she accepted the award, reflecting on the rejuvenating effect the role has had on her career. The film, which explores themes of body horror and self-reinvention, saw Moore portray a woman who exchanges her ageing body for a younger version of herself (played by Margaret Qualley, who teamed up with Moore for a fun double act to present the Best Actor award). “This is the first time I’ve ever won anything as an actor,” she added. There was strong competition in the category, including Anora star Mikey Madison and Wicked’s Cynthia Erivo.

Elsewhere in the film categories, Emilia Pérez, a Spanish-language musical about a Mexican drug lord who undergoes a gender transition (played by trans actress Karla Sofía Gascón), dominated the evening with four wins. The film won Best Musical or Comedy, Best Motion Picture Non-English Language and Best Original Song, while Zoe Saldaña took home Best Supporting Actress.

Wicked Followed In Barbie’s Footsteps

Though it had many nominations and was one of the most loved films of 2024, Wicked didn’t take home any of the top awards. However, it did score the Box Office Achievement Award. It mirrored 2024’s ceremony, where last year’s winner Barbie, which was nominated across multiple categories, only won this prize.

In a notable twist, Adrien Brody triumphed over A Complete Unknown’s Timothée Chalamet to win Best Actor for his role in The Brutalist, a three-hour and 35-minute drama about a Hungarian architect who builds a new life in the US after WWII. The film also scooped Best Drama and Best Director for Brady Corbet, who acknowledged the film’s unconventional appeal in his acceptance speech. Another of the night's big surprises was Brazilian actress Fernanda Torres winning Best Drama Actress for her performance in I'm Still Here. She was up against veteran stars Angelina Jolie and Nicole Kidman.

Meanwhile, Sebastian Stan won Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for his transformative role in A Different Man, in which he plays a character with a disfiguring facial condition. Stan used his win to address the importance of normalising disability and disfigurement, urging society to move past its discomfort. Peter Straughan won Best Screenplay for Pope drama Conclave, while Kieran Culkin took home the Best Supporting Actor award for his role in A Real Pain.

Some Of Our Favourite Shows Won Awards

On the TV side of the awards show, Shōgun – FX’s sweeping series set in 17th-century-era Japan – won four awards, including Best Drama Series, Best Actor for Hiroyuki Sanada, Best Supporting Actor for Tadanobu Asano, and Best Actress for Anna Sawai. The show also triumphed at last year’s Emmys – and based on its success, we can’t wait to see what the team has in store for series two.

After another great series, The Bear proved its staying power, winning Best Actor in a TV Comedy for Jeremy Allen White for the third time. Other small-screen winners included True Detective: Night Country’s Jodie Foster, Hacks’ Jean Smart and The Penguin’s Colin Farrell. Meanwhile, Baby Reindeer – Netflix’s dark comedy about stalking – won Best Limited Series, with writer and creator Richard Gadd accepting the award. The show also gained a Best Supporting Actress gong for Jessica Gunning.
