Form an overarching philosophy. I’m talking about shopping habits here – mine is to buy classic investment pieces that go with everything, then occasionally indulge in fun or trendy pieces that make me feel good.

Make smart purchases. That’s usually something I’ve thought about for a long time and know I will use almost daily. I focus on timeless basics, which can be mixed and matched to create endless outfits with just a few styling tricks – like draping a sweater over my shoulders or tying it around my waist. Accessories are also an easy – and sometimes affordable way – to switch up a look, making them a very worthwhile investment.

Buying WHAT WORKS FOR YOUR PERSONAL STYLE will always serve you better – & make getting dressed easier.

Know your ride-or-dies. Whenever someone asks what I’d start with if I had to rebuild my wardrobe, I always say great denim, a thick cotton white t-shirt, a good cashmere knit, loafers and a long coat that works over everything. Even adding just one of these pieces can be a game-changer in your wardrobe.

Review trends on a case-by-case basis. I’d love to say I’m immune to trends, but I do get drawn in occasionally. Overall, buying what works for your personal style will always serve you better – and make getting dressed easier. That said, if you love a trend, know you’ll wear it and it’s reasonably priced – like the Miu Miu glasses I just couldn’t resist – then go for it.

Go vintage when you can. I spend far too much time on eBay and Vestiaire Collective, but there’s nothing more satisfying than finding a dream piece for a fraction of the price. I especially love vintage bags – the slightly worn-in look is very Olsen twin-coded. Plus, owning something unique is always a win.

Buy into pieces and styles, not brands. Investment pieces are important, but you don’t have to spend a fortune to achieve a certain look. The high street is amazing right now – I often take inspiration from brands like The Row then find similar pieces at COS or Massimo Dutti

Use the one-week rule to protect your bank account. I used to shop impulsively but now I wait a week before committing to a new purchase. If I’m still obsessing over it after that, I go for it. This simple rule has saved me from making so many regrettable purchases.

Invest in outerwear. It’s probably intensely British of me, but if there is one thing I wear the most, especially right now, it’s a good coat. While you can find chic coats on the high street, I like to spend a bit more knowing that not only will it keep me warm, but it’s something I'll hopefully have for many seasons to come.

Cover all the bases and do your research. When something catches my eye, I’ll stalk it online, try it on in store, and do some deeper research, like watching TikToks and YouTube reviews. If I’m really undecided, I’ll ask my partner – a second opinion never hurts, and he’s yet to steer me wrong.

Get back into the shops. As much as I love online shopping, there’s something magical about the in-store experience. You build relationships, enjoy the process, and walk out with something you’ve tried and loved. It’s so worth it.

Set some ground rules. If I can’t style something multiple ways, it doesn’t come home with me. I also avoid fast-fashion brands with questionable ethics and practices. And a ‘one in, one out’ rule also means I don’t buy things I already own.

Cover all the bases and DO YOUR RESEARCH. When something catches my eye, I’ll stalk it online, try it on in store & do some deeper research, like watching TikToks & YouTube reviews.

Don’t forget to cleanse. Every three months, I go through my wardrobe. If I don’t wear something or just don’t love it anymore, it goes – first to friends and family, then to charity. A tidy wardrobe is a happy wardrobe.

Learn from your mistakes. I’ve trained myself to stop buying things just because everyone else is. It’s so easy to feel like you need something purely because everyone else is wearing it.
