The Fashion Team’s Favourite Coats For AW24

A great winter coat should work hard for you this year, and for many more. Heavy enough to keep you warm, versatile enough to work with most of your wardrobe – it pays to make the right choice. From designer to high-street and everything in between, here are the best pieces the fashion team have spotted this season…

My winter coat wish list always outweighs my budget... This season I'm in love with the cosiness of this TOTEME shearling number. With plenty of wide-leg denim styles around, it works to have something neater on top. For everyday wear, this deep brown ARKET wrap coat gets my vote, and for something a bit more decadent, Bouguessa's double breasted cream piece is the dream.

A great winter coat needs to be able to instantly elevate any look. This cream fringed coat from Mango is perfect for adding a bit of texture to everyday outfits. For something more tailored, The Frankie Shop’s burgundy maxi is a real show-stopper – its sleek silhouette and rich colour make it a timeless investment. Finally, ME +EM’s buttermilk yellow coat puts an unexpected twist on winter dressing.

When autumn/winter becomes a sea of black, beige and grey, you will always find me with a colour pop coat on. It's the simplest way for me to inject some colour into my look on cold, dark days. Coats are one of the items I get most excited about at this time of year, as I love experimenting with new shapes and silhouettes. Sharp and tailored is my favourite shape – it makes me feel instantly put together.

Leather trenches were all over the AW24 runways and if the SS25 shows are any indication, they'll prove to be a worthy investment. Róhe is one of my go-to brands for well-made, timeless pieces and this trench is hard to beat. Wax jackets are also having a big moment, and this COS car coat is a great nod to the trend while being more suitable to city dressing. Chocolate brown is also big news for autumn and I love this collarless coat from Reformation. The detachable scarf means you can add an extra detail or keep things classic and clean.

Shearling lined jackets are my repeat autumn purchase. These cosy pieces are so easy to style with loose denim for a more relaxed silhouette. When I attend evening events in the colder seasons, I always swap out my heavier coats for a less bulky style and this cropped wool jacket from Massimo Dutti is as practical as it is stylish. However, my winter wardrobe isn’t complete without a longline coat and this tan coloured option is the perfect length.

I have a few gaps in my outerwear collection that I would like to fill this season. This long wool blend coat is really smart and a great high-street option. I’ve also been loving the barn jacket trend, and they’re turning a bit longer now – this J. Crew plaid style caught my eye immediately. Finally, this chocolate brown, scarf detail jacket is the ultimate investment.

You can make or break an outfit with a coat, and I always prefer a more statement style. I'm obsessed with this faux fur one from Nour Hammour. It's the perfect neutral shade to elevate any outfit – throw on a strong pair of heels and you're good to go. You can't escape puffed leather this season either, and this sleek black coat is so good. Team it with a turtleneck and croc print boots for a bold look.
