Since I’ve become a fan of dressing with colour, I’ve had to work out a few simple formulas to avoid any major disasters. Right now, I like going all out in one colour or adding pops of colour to enhance the rest of an outfit. Specifically, I have a very strong relationship/addiction with red at the moment, so you’re about to see lots of it here! The only other thing I’ll say for now is, don’t be scared. Colour brings joy – it will literally brighten a day – so make sure you have fun wearing it.

01

Invest In A Colour Block Coat

This is a great and easy way to add colour to your outfit. Just make sure the rest of your look is pared back and stylishly tonal – let’s not go too wild… yet. A shirt with a statement collar works well to break the outfit up and a matching bag effortlessly pulls the look together.

02

Put Something Bright Around Your Neck

A colourful scarf will add instant joy to your day. Roll it up like a sausage, tie a double knot at the front and keep it on display. Scarves are best worn with lots of necklaces. You could also try folding the scarf into a triangle and tying it at the back of your neck in more of a bandana style. It might also make a great detail tied around your bag.

03

Dress In One Shade

Wear one colour head to toe – and make sure your underwear matches too! Trust me you’ll feel powerful and amazing. A suit is a great and simple way to achieve this. This can be worn day or night, or even day to night.

04

Let Your Knitwear Pop

Add a pop of colour through your knitwear. This can be as simple as tying a coloured knit over your shoulders. And yes, I really do have a serious love for red, but let’s be honest it’s the perfect colour to make any outfit pop!

Try Colourful Trainers

There’s seriously no going back after this purchase. These are my go-to, adding instant coolness to any look. Suggested colours are red, obviously, but also cobalt blue, bottle green and mustard.

06

Add A Bright Rollneck

Solid colour or stripes, a bright rollneck is best worn with a shirt on top, buttoned up three quarters of the way. Not only will this add colour and warmth, it’s also very on trend.

07

Experiment With Accessories

The key here is to keep your outfit quite simple and neutral, and let the colour make it pop. Matching two colourful accessories works best – and why not go crazy with a red lip too? This works with lots of colours but, after lots of experimenting, red does the best job. Though mustard is also very good at this game.

08

Make A Statement With Your Socks

This works best when you can see the socks and they aren’t hidden under your trousers, although that can still be a nice surprise when you cross your legs. Go wild, but just make sure your socks talk to your outfit tonally or they are in a colour that makes it pop. So, be tonal or be bold!
