The SL Fashion Team’s Style Resolutions For 2023

My Style Resolution: Buy & Sell Pre-Loved

I am going to be more mindful of the circularity of my clothes. I'll be having a big clear-out this month and selling anything I don’t wear anymore through Circle Boutique and Sign Of The Times. One of my favourite dresses of last year came from the latter – it’s by a brand called Gül Hürgel and I wore it all summer. The beauty of shopping pre loved and from previous seasons, is that you're less likely to find someone else wearing the same. I'll also be questioning my purchases more and if I do buy new, it will be from sustainable, independent brands.

My Style Resolution: Elevate My Basics

I’ve started investing in good quality basics. I always find myself putting an outfit together but wishing I had better foundations. It’s these pieces that make dressing an effortless task and they can really help a look feel polished and complete. This year I want to buy thin cashmere rollnecks for layering, some thick cotton white t-shirts and a pair of quality everyday jeans. Hopefully, these pieces will help my wardrobe work harder and last season after season.

My Style Resolution: Observe One In One Out

This year, I’m going to apply the one-in-one-out rule to my wardrobe. I am already quite considerate when it comes to new purchases – I don’t buy clothes very often and when I do it is rarely impulsive. I always do a seasonal clear-out, but I like the idea of refining my wardrobe more regularly. For now, I mainly sell pieces on eBay or give them to charity. I will continue to do this, but I also plan to try out Vinted as I’ve been told it’s great for lower-priced items.

My Style Resolution: Take More Risks With Footwear

I’m someone who loves trainers – for me they’re the easiest thing to throw on and the most comfortable. However, I’ve fallen into a rut of reaching for the same pair of New Balance every day. It’s disappointing because I have an extensive shoe wardrobe that’s just waiting to be worn. So, my resolution is to widen my shoe horizons — reach for a loafer here, a fun clog there, perhaps even a boot. It’s so simple, but I think it’ll be a small tweak that makes a big difference.

My Style Resolution: Add More Colour

It’s a running joke that colour isn't my forte but I’m ready to be more adventurous this year. My style inspirations – Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner – find ways to inject colour into their neutral palettes, and if they can, so can I. As someone with medium-toned skin, I am being drawn to colours such as orange, red and mauve…
