Style Rules: Sinead Crowe
My style has changed in 2020. Pre-lockdown, I would have said my look was made up of simple, neutral wardrobe staples – usually with a twist – but whether it’s the season change or being stuck inside, I’ve found myself picking out more playful pieces, not to mention my new love for pastels. My sweatshirt and jogger collection has also grown significantly!
I couldn’t live without jeans. I’m a denim girl through and through, and if I had to wear one outfit for the rest of my life it would be a t-shirt and jeans.
So far, I’ve lived in oversized shirts this summer. They look great worn open over a little vest with any bottoms – it’s such a casual and comfy outfit but still looks semi-smart because you’re wearing a shirt. My favourite place to get them is Amazon men’s section – I have the same one in four different colours.
The next thing I want to treat myself to is a Jacquemus Le Chiquito bag. I’ve had my eye on one for a while but prefer the larger size to the micro bags. Later this year, I’ll probably invest in some Proenza Schouler chunky boots for the winter seeing as I’ve lived in high street ones for the past couple of years.
Apart from accessories, I always invest in good knitwear. I’m a bit of a bargain hunter so it’s usually when the sales are on or at an outlet, but every year I’ll treat myself to an Acne Studios jumper.
When it comes to the high street, my favourite spots are H&M and Arket. Arket does the best basics, and H&M covers all the bases, from pretty dresses to knitwear. If I had to shop at one place for the rest of my life, it’d probably be H&M. I also love & Other Stories and Topshop for denim.
One of the designer names I love the most is Chloé, I just adore their handbags and the ones I’ve owned for years I never tire of. I am low-key obsessed with Golden Goose trainers too: they are the comfiest I’ve ever worn. While I don’t currently own anything from Jacquemus yet, it won’t be long as I love everything the brand is doing right now.
Some of my favourite smaller brands include Daily Paper’s menswear section – try them for cool loungewear. My sister also has her own brand called Elcy Clothing, which is worth checking out for beautiful swimwear and lingerie.
My favourite piece in my wardrobe is my Shrimps Antonia bag. She’s a work of art!
The piece in my wardrobe I regret buying is my Acne Studios shearling aviator jacket. Don’t get me wrong, I love it and won’t be selling it, but I’ve had it for two years and only worn it a couple of times. I don’t feel quite so guilty as I got it at an outlet store. But if I wouldn’t have paid full price for it, I probably shouldn’t have bought it.
The most expensive piece in my wardrobe is my Chanel classic flap bag. I cringe when I think about how many times I haven’t worn it.
Most of my style icons are on Instagram – it’s the place I get my style inspiration. Some of my favourite follows are Matilda Djerf, Emma Leger, Disco Day Dream, Emmanuelle Koffi, Emily Cocklin and Amaka Hamelijnck.
The secret to good style is wearing what makes you feel good. If you aren’t comfortable, you won’t pull it off.
