The Sensus Collective Girls Talk Fashion & Interiors

As founders of Sensus Collective, Matilde Mourinho and Scarlett Karmel create pop-ups that draw attention to emerging fashion labels and lifestyle brands. They’ve clearly got great eyes for the latest trends, but we also wanted to know a bit more about their own enduring styles…

ON STYLE

Matilde: My biggest style influence has been my mum. I admired her style growing up and how she expressed herself through it. My friends would always say how good my mum looked every time they saw her – and it still happens today. I trust her opinion and taste more than anyone's. I'm also incredibly lucky that we're the same size and she's kind enough to let me borrow (or steal) many of her clothes, shoes and bags.

Scarlett: My 97-year-old grandma is the chicest woman I know. She still wears heels and is a true icon. I love going to her house and finding amazing vintage treasures. She takes pride in her appearance and always puts her outfits together impeccably.

My mum always used to say: REMOVE THE LAST ITEM YOU PUT ON as it’s usually the item you need least. I also love a good ‘UNIFORM’ and rely on essentials.

Matilde: When it comes to rules, I believe less is more. My mum always used to say: remove the last item you put on as it’s usually the item you need least. I also love a good ‘uniform’ and rely on essentials like a good pair of jeans, a quality tank top or t-shirt, comfortable but stylish trainers, and a cool jacket or layer to finish the look. When it comes to interiors, I apply the same philosophy, keeping things minimal yet filled with character. I don't like a room that feels too cluttered, but I want personality in a space, so it’s about finding a balance.

Scarlett: My style has evolved over time, but I’d have to agree that less is more. I love to keep the base of my outfit – and interiors – neutral and add pops of colour. In my home, I do this via homewares and art. With my outfits, I use accessories to add colour and interest.

ON CURRENT FAVOURITES

Matilde: Alfie Paris has participated in the past two Sensus pop-ups and I just love everything they do. It’s comfortable but still elevated and cool. Mathilda Moos is another Parisian brand doing incredibly special pieces. Then there are enduring favourites like TOTEME, Anine Bing, The Frankie Shop, Nanushka, Prada and Chanel.

Scarlett: Eyeam’s Love Language Lip Gloss really gives Rhode’s Peptide Treatment a run for its money. If ‘summer in Ibiza’ was a brand, it would be Coup de Soleil. This Marrakesh-based brand has the most incredible summer pieces that work from day to night. Finally, Eclectiquette is a treasure trove. It has super-limited quantities of vintage jewellery, homeware and now vintage fashion too.

Matilde: For summer dressing, Ayam Set is our go-to shopping platform for co-ords. It makes life so much easier, curating selections for every occasion. I think we both love Nara Niro for its incredible hand-embroidery and dyeing techniques. Each piece is crafted with such care and attention to detail, resulting in unique garments. The bold, authentic and eclectic designs are perfect for making a statement at any event.

Scarlett: Sestini is my new favourite eyewear brand. The designs are special and the quality is incredible. Artisanal, limited edition and handcrafted in Italy using conscious materials, it’s one to know if you want something not everyone has yet. I also love Second Vue. It has the coolest shades, restoring vintage and second-hand eyewear to give it new life.

Matilde: For jewellery, we both love Yassy. Its evil eye bracelets come in endless different colours and add such a fun pop to any look. Vertigo’s necklaces and bracelets are such statement pieces, elevating every look in a cool way.

For summer dressing, AYAM SET is our go-to shopping platform for co-ords. It makes LIFE SO MUCH EASIER, curating selections for every occasion.

Scarlett: Nona the Label’s Marshmallow Bag is the most fabulous summer bag. We just collaborated on a special Sensus Collective colourway that we’ll be wearing all season long.

Matilde: Casa Rosa another of our Sensus Collective brands, and its bikinis and resortwear are so good. Its new bikinis are to die for. We also love Dolla Paris. The swimwear is such good quality and the style is amazing, but they also sell bikini and swimsuit straps on their own so you can interchange them to create your own look.

Scarlett: I love hosting dinner parties and have become obsessed with tableware – so this is what’s on my wish list right now. I'm heading to Venice soon and can't wait to splurge on some Murano glassware

Matilde: I’m eyeing up a silky Christopher Esber dress that I’d love to wear to my friend's upcoming wedding. There’s also a Frankie Shop striped shirt and short set I’m obsessed with and would live in during the summer.
