Vivian Hoorn Shares Her Seasonal Style Notes
The Style Advice
Outfits are an extension of our energy, so it’s important that what you’re in makes you feel good. For me that’s putting on something comfortable but chic. Confidence goes far deeper though. I haven't always felt confident in my skin, but I came to a point where I realised I spent so much time worrying about what I looked like that I wasn't being the best version of myself because of it. Instead of spending time on my appearance and what’s on the outside, I focused on me – to make myself a more beautiful person for myself and others from the inside out. This journey made me far more thankful for life and my body.
The Party Trend
I’m obsessed with the quiet luxury trend. It may sound counterintuitive for party season but, for the minimalists, stripping it back with just a beautiful pair of straight trousers, cute shoes, a wool sweater and oversized coat is so chic. To finish, you can never go wrong with a statement designer bag.
The Hero Colour
My personal go-to is grey – I love an all-grey look. For party season, I’m actually on the hunt for the perfect grey dress, so watch this space.
The Failsafe
Layers, layers, layers. A top, add a sweater plus a cute blazer or a jacket topped off with a huge coat. So naturally my wish list right now includes a fuffy Totême sweater and a boxy Róhe coat, a Loewe scarf and an Anine Bing blazer.
The Brand Favourite
I can’t not say my brand VIVEH. With our first AW collection, you can mix and match everything to create the ultimate winter wardrobe – think beautiful silk pieces and fine wool knits.
The Brand Promise
I prefer to say ‘body confidence’ instead of ‘body positivity’ because my brand is all about creating more confidence. I made VIVEH with curvier body types in mind, with a size range of 34 to 52. This is because when I started the brand, I had been dealing with trying to find the right clothes for me as a size 42/44 at the time. I wanted to buy consciously but a lot of the brands I looked at didn't have my size and I didn't feel like I could identify with the brand images either. I hope VIVEH can be the answer for others feeling this way – proving that aesthetic, conscious brands don’t only need to show size 34 models to be relevant.
The High Street Collection
I’m obsessed with the H&M party collection, the Rabanne collection and its collaboration with Rotate. So many good pieces – H&M is killing it right now, and at such great prices too.
The Outerwear
At VIVEH we have a beautiful grey oversized wool coat with big shoulders. It works with everything in my wardrobe, day and night. To switch things up, I have some Loewe and Chanel brooches I’ll often add on for a bit more interest. Elsewhere, Gant’s faux fur range of coats is to die for. So beautiful, so extra.
The Party Bag
My ultimate party bag – if I was being a little delusional – would be a Hermès Kelly in grey. Just a tiny one with a touch of gold. Perfection.
The Party Heels
High, skinny and sharp – these are my non-negotiables for heels. I actually just received a sleek YSL pair with a gold heel. They are perfect for party season to add a touch of elegance and glam in quite a minimalist way.
The Outfit Elevator
Jewellery can take any outfit to the next level. I love to be my own Christmas tree and decorate myself with gold details – but you could simply opt for something to add some extra interest. I like big, bold gold jewellery so my favourite brands are Saint Laurent, Tilly Sveaas and 24Kae.
The Dress Alternative
A simple pair of trousers and a sexy bodysuit from somewhere like La Perla, Agent Provocateur, Victoria’s Secret or Hunkemöller is a failsafe combo if you don’t want to wear a dress. Throw an oversized blazer on top for the perfect date-night look.
The Sunday Combo
Few things beat sweatpants. I usually wear mine with Uggs and the warmest knit I own. I also love a co-ord or matching set. Gestuz has a lot of them – they’re great for relaxing in or going to brunch, but you can also style things up for the evening too. It has an embellished denim set which is just so *wow*.
The Make-Up Trend
I walked for Rotate during Copenhagen fashion week and its make-up artists did a really edgy and dark, smudgy eye look on me that I’m dying to recreate for the holiday season. I’m not used to using a lot of make-up, but this look grew on me. I’ll balance that out with a glow-y base, a little bit of mascara and a darker lip.
The Party Bag Must-Haves
I’ll never go without a mini brush – because I’m addicted to brushing my hair about 15 times a day. I’ll also always keep a Rhode lip balm with me, along with some Gisou hair spray and (most importantly) a little snack.
The Style Muse
I’d love to copy and paste everything from Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s wardrobe. Let’s throw in her hair and make-up while we’re at it.
