The Luxe List: February

The SL team shares a selection of their new favourite things. From the fashion desk’s launch of choice to the latest beauty must-have, our monthly Luxe List offers all the inspiration you need...

THE CANDLE: Bon Parfumeur 04

Candle 04 is the latest candle from Bon Parfumeur, inspired by traditional Japanese ‘raku’ pottery firing. Made with canola wax, this sleek-looking candle has notes of smoked black lapsang souchong tea, mugwort, rhubarb and black birch, giving the fragrance a rich smokiness. Vegan and cruelty free, this new launch aims to turn homes into rustic Japanese getaways.

THE DESTINATION: Cedric Grolet at The Berkeley

On 14th February, Cedric Grolet – widely considered one of the world’s best pastry chefs – will open his first patisserie outside of France. Cedric Grolet at The Berkeley will see two of his iconic patisserie signature styles brought together for the first time – fruit and flowers. Pastries, viennoisseries and new creations will be served in the patisserie, where eight seats will overlook the kitchen. Customers will also be able to take them away or enjoy his creations at The Berkeley Café, a new 60-seat space in the hotel.

THE BEAUTY LAUNCH: Dior La Collection Privée

For the first time, La Collection Privée Christian Dior and Dior Makeup have been packaged up in Dior’s signature monochrome houndstooth check – a timeless design right from the beginning of the fashion house. New for 2022, the pattern has been reinvented to give its beauty collection a new lease of life. We’re especially pleased it has taken over Gris Dior, one of our favourite scents.

THE COOKBOOK: The Garden Café – A Year In The Kitchen

This month, George Ryle (ex-Primeur and Padella), the head chef at the award-winning Garden Museum Cafe in Lambeth, will publish his first cookbook. The book was two years in the making, and features a collection of 16 make-at-home recipes – four from each season – all of which champion some of the brilliant suppliers he works with at the restaurant, such as Swaledale, Flying Fish and Natoora.

THE HOMEWARE UPDATE: Orpha by Ceraudo

Ceraudo has launched a fabric and furniture range. Orpha is inspired by the abstract colours and rhythmic forms of the Orphism movement – and specifically the work of Sonia Delaunay – while the 100% cotton fabric has been hand-painted in India. The fabrics are available by the metre and as a series of upholstered accessories and furniture, including an armchair, slipper chair, dining chair, footstool, cushions and a rug. The fabric comes in five colours: Pesto, Grenadine, Seaweed, Tangerine and Coconut.

THE MOOD: Valentino at Couture Fashion Week

A highlight of Spring-Summer 2022 Couture Fashion Week, Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli put on a runway show featuring a cast of models that included varying body shapes, ages, races and genders, as well as sexagenarian models. The show was titled ‘Anatomy of Couture’ and according to the notes Piccioli was driven “to create a canon that reflects the richness and diversity of the contemporary world and promoting an idea of beauty that is not absolute.” Take note – fashion is for everyone (price tag permitting).

One Hundred Shoreditch is a 258-bedroom hotel in what used to be the Ace Hotel. THE MUSE: Charlotte Casiraghi

A vision of elegance and composure, Charlotte Casiraghi of Monaco – Grace Kelly's granddaughter – made her entrance to the Chanel Haute Couture Spring Summer show on horseback. Dressed in a tweed jacket embroidered with sequins and complemented by dramatically winged eye-linger, the equestrian rode through the set opening the show to a delighted audience. We’ll be taking inspiration from her confidence and poise as we ride into the new season.

THE RESTAURANT: The Aubrey

The Aubrey has opened at Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park. Following a huge fire at the hotel in 2018, the team has pulled out all the stops for its new restaurant, which joins the ever-popular Dinner by Heston. The Aubrey promises to create a fully immersive experience focused on art and design, but we love the sound of it because it’s an izakaya, with menus showcasing traditional Japanese cooking techniques and sustainable produce – think A3 wagyu beef and Hokkaido crab.

THE SUBSCRIPTION: Hoohaa

Hoohaa introduces three niche scents each month, allowing subscribers to experience brands and ingredients they may not have thought to try before. The monthly subscription service sends out one of these new fragrances – based on customer preference – in a 10ml vial for £14.95 per month. The team also offers a three (£39), six (£75), and 12-month (£139) gift subscription. Best of all, Hoohaa also sells full-sized bottles of the scents featured in its monthly drops – ideal if you’ve just discovered your new signature scent.
