EXHIBITION: Lee Krasner: Living Colour

This exhibition celebrates the work and life of Lee Krasner (1908–1984), a pioneer of Abstract Expressionism. The first major presentation of her work in Europe for more than 50 years, Lee Krasner: Living Colour tells the story of a formidable artist, whose importance has too often been eclipsed by her marriage to Jackson Pollock. The exhibition invites visitors to discover Krasner’s spirit for invention – from striking early self-portraits to her acclaimed ‘Little Image’ paintings from the 1940s, from collages comprised of torn-up earlier work to a selection of her most impressive large-scale abstract paintings.

FILM: Rocketman

We’ve been waiting for this since the moment first sung along to Bohemian Rhapsody. Rocketman follows the transformation of shy piano prodigy Reginald Dwight into international superstar Elton John. This inspirational story – set to Elton John’s most loved songs and performed by Taron Egerton – tells the universally relatable story of how a small-town boy became one of the most iconic figures in pop culture. The film also stars Jamie Bell as Elton’s longtime writing partner Bernie Taupin, Richard Madden as Elton’s first manager John Reid, and Bryce Dallas Howard as Elton’s mother Sheila Farebrother.

Brand: Bite

We could all do with being a bit more eco-conscious when it comes to our shopping habits, and Bite is the Scandi label delivering doses of sustainability and style in equal measure. An acronym for ‘By Independent Thinkers For Environmental Progress’, the luxury label was founded in 2016 in response to increasing demand for more ethical fashion; each piece is hand crafted, and materials consist of 100% high quality natural organic fibres. The best bit? It’s impossibly cool too – think oversized satin blouses and slick neutral tailoring.

SONG: ‘I’m Not Coming Back’ by Meg Mac

Australian singer Meg Mac’s new single is big, anthemic and practically festival season-ready, with rhythmic beats that beg for audience participation. Still, Mac manages to maintain her old soul sound, and the single is a tantalising taste of what’s to come from her highly anticipated new album Hope, out June 2019. “I took inspiration for Nina Simone, Gill Scott Hereon, Sam Cooke and Patti Smith for this album,” she tells us. “There’s just something about the strength and attitude of these artists that I connect with. I was also indirectly informed about my past and I’d been reflecting on where I come from. I hope the music sparks something inside of people, whether it’s relating to the songs and the lyrics or making them feel empowered – that’d be cool.”

RESTAURANT: Soutine

Set on St John’s Wood High Street and taking inspiration from the great boulevard cafés in Paris, Soutine is the newest venture from Corbin & King, the team behind the Wolseley, Brasserie Zedel, Bellanger and Colbert. Set to open in the first week of May, Soutine is located in an impressive period building: the front room and pavement will offer a relaxed café and bar seating, leading to a slightly more formal space at the rear. The restaurant design is heavenly influenced by the area's strong artistic heritage and to celebrate this history, the space will evoke the Arts and Crafts movement while taking visual cues from its Edwardian architecture. We can’t wait to visit.

COLLECTION: New Self-Portrait

It’s no surprise that Self-Portrait does great eveningwear and we're once again being seduced with their dramatic ss19 collection. Lace and laser cutting play a big part, as does their signature asymmetric cuts and pleated details. But we’re most excited by the new addition of floral prints and bodice-like necklines. Let wedding season commence…
