What’s Going On

The trend isn’t so much lace itself as how it’s now being worn. Last season, that one asymmetric silk-and-lace top quietly took over our feeds – styled with jeans and tailored pieces, and layered under blazers. This has now evolved into something softer, more directional and a little more fashion. Think longer lace tops, tiered skirts, sheer layers and ruffled details that nod to the 90s rather than anything too vintage.

The overall effect is not overly feminine. There’s always a point of contrast – something undone or slightly tougher – which stops it from feeling precious. It also makes perfect sense for spring. After months of heavier layers, lace brings a lightness, while tapping into the sheer, barely-there mood we’re seeing right now.

From Chloé's TIERED BLUSH GOWNS to Zimmermann's pieces layered over denim, the SS26 runways made one thing clear, lace is the TEXTURE OF THE SEASON.

Where It’s Come From

If there’s one brand that’s the blueprint for romantic dressing with edge, it’s Chloé. Under Chemena Kamali, the house has fully embraced its 70s DNA – floaty silhouettes, soft ruffles and that Daisy Jones & The Six energy. What makes everything work, though, is the styling. Nothing feels overly girly or costume-like – just relaxed, a little undone and completely wearable.

Elsewhere, Alberta Ferretti continues to champion a similarly ethereal softness, while Bora Aksu offers a slightly more directional, London-led take. Aje’s latest collections, meanwhile, feel more contemporary – structured, statement pieces that prove lace can still feel modern.

How To Wear Lace Now

It’s all about balance. A lace top with denim or tailored trousers is an easy way in – soft yet polished. From Aje to Sea New York, tiered and textured pieces are everywhere, while brands like Dissh  offer cooler, more relaxed takes – think lace skirts styled with oversized shirts and simple mules for an effortless, city-ready feel.

The key to wearing lace now is contrast – Anne-Laure proves it by grounding a floor-length sheer dress with dark aviators, while Chloe Lecareux throws a boxy blazer over a ruffled lace dress. The interplay between masculine and feminine is what makes it feel modern rather than precious.

If you’re ready to lean in, dresses are where the trend comes into its own. Free People, ASOS  and Zara  are all delivering strong options on the high street. Look for sheer layers, longer lines or subtle ruffles, then ground them with something tougher – a leather jacket, structured bag or even just a great pair of heels will instantly sharpen the look.
