16 Antiques We Love This Month

When it comes to antiques, it takes a lot of time and energy to source the perfect piece. In this feature, we’ve done the hard work for you. From a Scandinavian sheepskin sofa to a set of elegant dining chairs, here is what we’ve seen and rate online.

Set Of Six Dining Chairs, £4,500

This set of six elegant and richly carved 19th-century French beechwood dining chairs are all stamped with the original Alexandre Pihouée maker’s mark. Respected Parisian furniture maker Pihouée established his business in 1878, and worked with his son Victor-David making furniture until 1906. We also love the upholstered fabric – the look is so fresh and clean. Available here

Woven Bench, £695

Still with its original rush seat, this French country bench is bang on trend – even though it dates back to the 19th century. It’s slim enough to sit in a hallway or at the end of a bed. We also love the colouring of the wood and the simple design. Available here

Butler’s Tray, £1,900

Made from Cuban mahogany in around 1780, this richly toned tray has fold-down sides. Butler’s trays were originally used to serve drinks, tea or cakes on a stand. Nowadays, they’re used as side tables in living rooms, or as an extra serving surface in dining rooms. Available here

Sheepskin Sofa, £7,500

This iconic piece of Swedish furniture was designed in 1956 by master cabinetmaker Carl Malmsten. It has since been reupholstered in luxurious Australian shearling and would be perfect in a bay window or large bedroom. Available here

Side Table, £795

The contrast of the light bleached wood and dark heavy iron works so well on this French piece. It’s compact enough to work in several rooms, but we can picture it best in a narrow hallway or in a bathroom to store towels on the shelf below. Available here

Bobbin Chair, £520

Striking and versatile, this unusual bobbin chair has been newly unholstered in a sumptuous fabric with a blue and white Linwood pattern. Guaranteed to add character to any room. Available here

Mahogany Commode, £895

Dating back to 1800, this commode is a beautiful example of an ornate chest of drawers. With gold relief detailing and deep drawers for ample storage, it’s both practical and stylish. We can imagine it in a living room with a drinks tray on top.  Available here

Writing Table, £500

With a leather top and four drawers, this Victorian writing table is practical, elegant and in excellent condition. The finely tapered legs, which are beautifully carved, also sit on brass castors. The ideal addition to a home office. Available here

Armchair With Footstool, £1,495

This elegantly carved French armchair is a lovely piece on its own, but it’s the footstool that really sells it. Ideal for a cosy reading corner.  Available here

Tub Sofa, £1,140

This sweet French Napoleon tub sofa has plenty of details that catch the eye – including scrolled arms, a sprung back, a kidney-shaped seat and a gently curved back rest. The seat has also been recently refurbished so it’s quite sturdy, and ready to be upholstered in a fabric of your choice. Available here

Coffee Table, £2,082.50

Made of travertine by R Zevi in around 1970, this style of coffee table is enjoying a revival. Solid, retro and generous in size, it’s an investment, but one bound to stand the test of time.  Available here
