30 Stylish Cushions For All Budgets
“Cushions are one of the simplest yet most effective ways to add personality to a room,” says Laura Hammett. “They soften the architecture, introduce texture and colour, and make a space feel instantly more inviting. I think our love of cushions comes down to that British instinct for comfort and layering – we like our homes to feel lived-in and welcoming, not stark or show-home perfect. A beautifully arranged sofa, dressed with a mix of tones and textures, feels like an invitation to relax, which is something we do so well.
“Start with a neutral base and add pops of colour or pattern for interest. Typically, an odd number of cushions (three or five) works best on a sofa. If you’re going for three cushions, layer two neutral base cushions and a more special, detailed one (and three base to two special for a set of five). For beds, layer three neutral base cushions at the back with two special ones or a bolster in front.
“In the bedroom, the biggest mistake is neglecting the bedding or using very small, unfilled accent cushions. An unkempt or mismatched bed can instantly make the room feel less inviting and more basic. Invest in neutral high-quality, neutral bedding that feels luxurious and adds a touch of elegance. Additionally, cushions that aren't double stuffed or only have an inner cushion which is too small don’t feel premium, thus taking focus away from the rest of the space.”
