Find The Inspiration

This design was inspired by the surrounding Yorkshire landscape. The brief was to take a new build property and add the character it lacked. We have transformed it into a soulful, romantic and elegant family home, with a little whimsy scattered here and there. We’ve reconfigured the home to become a functional and comfortable space that’s made for everyday living.

Plan The Layout

The layout was a challenge. We wanted to maximise the kitchen’s potential and functionality while also including a pantry, dining area and living area, so we undertook a lot of careful planning to fit it all in. By designing the banquette seating area to tuck into the window, we maximised floor space and created a beautiful feature.

Get The Colour Palette Right

We opted for a neutral base layered with soft organic autumnal colours to reflect the surroundings of the house and achieve a timeless, cosy palette that would be enjoyed by our clients for years to come.

Work With Daylight

Really think about the aspect and how much natural light comes in through the windows. If it’s south facing, you want to ensure you have adequate window dressings to shield furnishings from the midday sun. Also, consider air conditioning. Adding window dressings really helps to soften large windows.

Add Interest Through Materials

Beautiful textural materials – from the solid timber floors to the marble countertops and antique brass hardware – make this scheme sing. I also love the soft floppy window blinds, the scatter cushions in various prints and colours, the basket trays and the carefully sourced antiques.

Consider The Lighting

Keep it low and keep it soft. We even layer with lighting, so get your task lighting, pendants and wall lights on separate circuits to create the right setting depending on the time of day, year or occasion.
