The Brief

We wanted to create a sanctuary – a place where our client could unwind and relax between all her trips. At the same time, it also needed to be a space where she could show off a bit and host events. Neither of us believe in following trends – but we do believe in the timeless power of extravagant pieces.

The Colour Palette

Each room in this house has a different feel and colour scheme. Even this space, which at first looks quite neutral, is actually bold and unique in its colours, materials and shapes – think vibrant mossy velvets, textured curtain fabrics and black veined marble contrasting with brushed brass details throughout.

The Finishes

The rooms are all quite opulent, but with a modern twist. To link tradition with modernity and to give the space a grand, classical feel, we introduced ornate cornicing and wall panelling to frame and tie the space together.

The Lighting

Lighting is so important. You have to consider illumination from every angle and every piece needs to be well considered to set the right mood – we used statement pendants combined with spotlights on the ceiling to highlight certain areas, and wall lights and table lights to create a bit more atmosphere.

The Shelf Styling

You don’t need lots of pieces to make open shelves look interesting. In fact, sometimes less is more – it’s really about clever positioning. Combining books with vases and sculptural accessories of different heights always creates depth.
