What Inspired This Design?

This is one of the guest rooms in our Dorset House project; the client wanted to create a sanctuary for house guests to relax and feel at home. The idea was to create a warm, cocooning space with all the luxuries of a hotel, but still with that rustic, country feel.

How Did You Choose The Colour Palette?

We started with the wall colour, which is Little Greene Light Peach Blossom; it has fantastic depth and helps warm up this large room with its Georgian proportions. I balanced this with fresh sky blue tones to add a bit of uplifting energy, as well as pale creams. There is a lot of fabric in here, so it was a real balancing act to ensure they all worked together. The curtains, for example, are almost the same colour as the walls, so the delicate pattern provides texture, while the pops of blue in the fabric draw your eye to different parts of the space.

How Did You Design The Bed?

The real focus of the room is vthe bed with its elegant canopy; it really adds to that cosy feeling. The Veere Grenney Townline Road fabric in Blue on the inside of the canopy breaks up all the pink in the room, layered with the rich, dark blue velvet headboard. It's that balance of pattern and block colour that ensures this is a relaxing space, even though there’s quite a bit going on.

Finally, What’s Your Favourite Part Of The Room?

I love the little vanity table and stool – it’s such a pretty little corner where everything comes together. I designed this zigzag stool especially for this space as I found it tricky to find a functional dressing stool with as much character. I now sell it online and it’s one of our most popular pieces.
