Why We Love Rattan Chairs

Trends might be something designers prefer to sidestep but there’s been no avoiding the prevalence of rattan in the interiors world of late – especially when it comes to stylish and affordable seating. Here's why, as well as some of our favourite pieces to shop now.

Versatility

From accent loungers to dining carvers, rattan chairs are a firm favourite when it comes to instantly updating your home décor. It’s easy to see why – this natural material works well with a number of themes and styles, from coastal chic to boho, plus it can be styled in either a traditional or contemporary way.

Durability

Hardwearing yet flexible, rattan can be bent or shaped to create ornate decorative patterns or delicate intricate weaves. Accessorise it with an otherwise neutral colour palette to ensure the texture does most of the talking.

Affordability

When it comes to decent bang for your buck, rattan wins every time. Buy one piece as an accent chair for a bedroom, living space or even a bathroom to transform your space without breaking the bank.

It’s Natural

The texture and tones of rattan mix well with neutral schemes, providing a gentle contrast and quick finishing touch. It also works to add warmth and dress down an otherwise formal space, pairing especially well with other natural materials like jute and wood.

I find that rattan has a sort of laid back elegance, it adds texture and warmth to an interior and can be layered successfully with materials and colour to give depth and interest to a room.
