BEST FOR OCCASION WEAR: Taite Ro

The Story: Launched by founder Phoebe Reid on Instagram in 2021 when she was still at university, the brand has grown rapidly, and now rents out its pieces nationwide. Outfits are available to rent for four, nine or 14 days, with brands including Gucci, Self Portrait and more.

The Style: With Instagram-worthy pieces perfect for a graduation, special date night, or summer holiday, visit Taite Ro to browse statement pieces that are bound to impress. We recommend checking out the mega collection of Rat & Boa dresses.

Why It’s Different: Occasion wear is undoubtedly the brand’s strong suit, and the goal is to make these aspirational, often sold-out items more accessible. Founder Phoebe also aims to offer a personalised customer experience. “Taite Ro is your very own personal shopper – we chat to customers on a daily basis to help them find that perfect fit and give them recommendations based on their requests,” she tells LuxeGirl.

BEST ON-TREND PIECES: Wardrobe Hire

The Story: Founder Lucy Bullock’s affinity for Australian and American brands sparked the idea for Wardrobe Hire. “There was a niche market for renting these items out as the taxes were crazy to import these pieces – especially when we only end up wearing them a couple of times,” Lucy says. After a tough time trying to grow the business in a pandemic, she found her biggest supporters were often influencers, who were keen to create content and push brand awareness.

These are pieces you would only tend to wear for a SPECIAL OCCASION – the ‘It girl’ clothes and accessories. Renting means you can try out the styles you might not necessarily choose to invest in yourself.

The Style: From Charlotte Simone to Maiou – and even a Jacquemus Chiquito for only £50 – Wardrobe Hire is a one-stop shop full of trending TikTok and IG hot products.

Why It’s Different: Working with a growing community of creators and influencers, Wardrobe Hire is more than just a place to rent clothes. The brand’s Instagram account is full of outfit inspiration and aims to keep its community fully up to date on the latest fashion. Its curation of trending products is unmatched, with in-demand statement pieces available for a fraction of the original retail price. Even better, delivery is quick and there’s responsive customer service over DM.

BEST PEER-TO-PEER SERVICE: LoanHood

The Story: In 2019, Jade McSorley (then a London College of Fashion graduate and model) joined forces with sustainability advocates Lucy Hall (a Models 1 booker) and Jen Charon (from Yoox Group and Manolo Blahnik) to launch this peer-to-peer fashion service. “Working in an industry that took so much and gave back so little to the planet catalysed us to come up with something with a purpose and that could create meaningful change,” Jade explains. “Renting and borrowing was also so normal for us on photoshoots, so it made sense to open that up to everyone.”

LoanHood is for the FASHION REBELS who stand outside the current fashion system. It's for the CREATORS, MAKERS and EMERGING DESIGNERS – rental can give them another revenue alongside selling. It’s for the thrifters, vintage hunters and Depoppers who want to add rental to their resale.

The Style: Although Gen Z style is at the brand’s core, there’s also a huge emphasis on inclusivity here – the brand is all about personal style instead of trend-led fashion, noting how the fashion rental market tends to cater more for those with designer wardrobes.

Why It’s Different: With peer-to-peer operations, a unique ethos, and tailored service options, Loanhood has thought of everything to optimise the user experience. “Customers are fully in control of their rental rail – they can upload items, set the price, choose different delivery options and whether they want something dry-cleaning, as well as accepting and rejecting rental requests,” explains Jade.  The brand also has added features, including a unique Loan A Look function so users can rent out an entire outfit rather than just one piece. The brand also has a rewards system where sharing on Instagram earns users points and prizes. For now, the app is gated, with users added to a waitlist when they sign up – but a full launch is expected this June.
